Now that we have our 46" plasma, will start saving for an upgrade in 3-4 years. I'll be looking for about 65" and probably budget around $3K. What will be my options?

Wow...you are asking us to be Nostradamus. :D No one on this forum could give you an idea or predict what may happen by then. You may only see 2-3 top tier manufacturer's. You may see many consolidation and mergers between some companies. OLED may not take off...LCD will remain the crown for flat panel technology. Plasma will not exist. There are many factors, economically and financially at this point to make an assumption of what can happen, but may not happen at all. I will always think optimistically, that LCD and Plasma will continue to battle for the "crown of flat panel technology".

Given the market demands, 50" is the average size of most flat panels within a household. Now 65" at that time should be more affordable as year go by. As of now, the Samsung 63A650 (63") are near your budget as well as the Sharp Sharp LC-65D64U (65") are at your budget. By then you can expect 60"-65" to be affordable within your budget at that time.

The reset button hits and we are all wiped out in 2013. The Mayan calender ends at 2012.

I'm one that likes to plan ahead. You really have me beat here though.

I'm guessing we will see more options for larger panels. What that means, I don't know.

Floating TVs that are no thicker than a piece of paper. I am taking preorders now if you're interested. ;)

Dunno. Depends on what kind of tech our new alien overlords bring with them.

As for what can be bought on store shelves, there won't be anything new from today. Due to the global decline, new product development funding is gone.

You'll be lucky to be able to buy the sizes and kinds of products that are available today, at today's prices, in 2-3 years.

You'll be even luckier to still have an income to buy such products with by that time.

The world is entering a Depression it will never crawl out of again, and survival will be the number-one priority for both sane individuals and corporations.

I believe the date is 12/21/2012. This is when our sun is going to align with the center of the galaxy, thus causing the end of the earth.

on a side note: In 2013, Im hoping for OLED 55inch+.

Large screens will be passe. Everyone will want the personal micro-screens that are watched from 1/4" away.

80" OLEDs 1/2" thick. :D

It's comforting to know that there is so much to look forward to.

And with no one to guide you out, you'll be stuck in permanent psychosis. The walls of reality will come crashing down. One minute you'll be the savior of the rebel cause, then, next thing you know, you'll be Cohaagen's bosom buddy. You'll even have fantasies about alien civilizations, as you requested. But in the end, back on Earth...You'll be lobotomized.:p

On 12-21-2012 we will be able to view the black hole that is the center of our galaxy--it will be blacker than the blackest Kuro which will cause the end of the universe.
