Let me say, I was a early adopter of the A-1 possibly one of the worst glitched a/v products I have ever known. But the picture quality kicked A.S.S., it was the early days of hidef with just a few monitors and wow the picture on hd-dvds were just so great., I remeber posting pictures of my FHD1 pioneer 10890p monitor with them. I too was at frys the other day and saw multiple hd-dvds at 499 each. I and then went to back to the time when laserdisc was king. It was small group of devoted persons who at time when money was worth something would pay 100 bucks for a boxset. there are so many great stories about ken cranes, collectors, those were the days. I really wished at the time for ONE format, but now reflecting upon that granted wish, I would and miss hd-dvd as a competitor
Hd-dvd made blue ray better and vice versa If it were around today much more software would be available at more reduced prices for both software and hardware. I will say one thing for the hd-dvd believers, they were tough bunch and had tosh not thrown in the towel would still be loyal today.
Looking back at hd-dvd the one, major mistake they made was putting the a-1 out to early, just as the sammy br player came out. They should have done it right, and not first, they should have reduced player price much sooner....I wish to salute all former and current owners of hd-dvd for sticking with something that "could of been a contender".....:)
PS: My Fhd1 pioneer plasma is still running strong with no problems, the best buy I have ever made
