I am in the process of getting my basement finished. I have built it around the future home theater. my contractor also put one in his house, and said he had to move his DLP projector back from the recommended 14.5' to around 20' to fit his 110" screen.

so my question is, my room is now 19' deep in the direction of the screen, should I add 1' to it, would it make any significant difference. I can do so, but need to in the next few days, as the surround walls are up, but not the inside walls yet, so it can still be changed.

I'll try to attach a sketch of the plan (edit, it won't upload my sketchup plans)

thanks for any help

dan

oh, p.s., and I'm shooting for a 120" screen at this point if that helps, or actually a 125"er (it will NOT be a super fancy theater, but usable)

Mounting distance from the screen is going to depend on your projector. What PJ are you going with? FWIW, my Panny AE-3000U is fine sitting ~14ft back from the screen, and I'm projecting 106".

In my room I ran conduit and electrical to two separate spots in the room for the PJ, one at ~14ft and one at ~20ft. I am not using the 20ft spot now, but it is in place for a future upgrade to a 2.35 set up. Something for you to consider, especially if you don't know what projector you will use now.

that's a great idea, I'm looking at a sony vw200 or jvc rs2 or the like,
16:9 screen at about 120-125"

I'm going to go with adding a foot I'm thinking, in the far chance that I'll need it I would realllllly kick myself in the butt if I didn't have it.
