I have been trying to get OTA reception and so far have tried 2 different antennas. I am in Troy, NY 12180 just outside of Albany and all the towers are about 17-18 miles from me.

RCA ANT1500 - get most of the channels I want except FOX doesn't register at all and NBC signal comes in and out. CBS, ABC, and WB are perfect.

I went to Radioshack to try an amplifier but the guy talked me into a Radioshack Amplified Indoor Antenna - actually gets worse reception than the ANT1500.

My next step was gonna be one of these Clearstream4 antennas (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BRXW74)

Here are my results from Antenna Web and TVfool.
From what I understand all of the main stations are either on the same tower or right next to each other and I don't think there is any mountains or whatnot near me.

Any suggestions for getting WXXA (FOX) to register?

Your two problem stations are high vhf (ch 7, WXXA, Fox and ch 12, WNYT, NBC). You need an antenna that can acquire high vhf channels. A winegard 7694 antenna would work very well for you on the roof. I don't know how well the clearstream antennas work for high vhf channels. But, I would investigate thoroughly before buying one....

The 7694 may work in your attic as you are close to the towers with LOS and high signal strengths. You will likely need to test multiple locations before you find the hotspot. Locate the antenna away from any metal ductwork or wiring that may be in your attic. Signal strengths may be better if you can aim through the gable end of your home rather than through the roof.

I would suggest looking into a MS-2000 omni-directional antenna. From our data we see the FOX station being behind you the other direction.

So, both antennaweb and tvfool got it wrong? Got a link to verify that?

Let me explain that a little differently, I misunderstood one of our techs. The FOX and NBC stations are actually broadcasting from the exact same location as the other channels you are receiving. WYPX (Ion) is also broadcasting to the Northwest and you will probably need a omni-directional to pick that up as it is right on the edge.

It seems like you are currently having some UHF issues with FOX and NBC.

WXXT and WNYT are high *VHF* not UHF. Look at the supplied antenna web and tvfool info by transparentl.

You will also most likely experience a change during the transition as stations ramp up to full power and your NBC station moves over to the other broadcast location.

If your not worried about the Ion channel then the Winegard HD7694P in the attic should be a great option. With a small amount of luck you'll get the Ion channel as well.

(Your right about the High VHF vs. UHF that I stated earlier. It's been a long day.)
