Are you using this point aligement??? Everbody here seems to prefeer " do not touch" the point / zone aligement unless it is absolute nessasary?? I saw the DVD from CP site about setting up CRT like a pro. This pro is using the zone ajustment a lot??? How long time do you have try get straight lines before you hit the point ajutment??

It depends on the set. All NECs more or less need some point correction, even with the green geometry to get perfectly straight lines.

THe guideline is for the R and B though that you should be able to get wiithin 1-2 test pattern line thicknesses between all three colors. Only then should you use point.

THe problem that we used to read about here a lot is that people would be off by say 1-2" in the corners especially, then use way too much point, and they'd get distortion in the image, that some people even thought was tube burn. Use point as little as possible, Doug Baisey says about 4 clicks in each direction max from neutral, and you'll be fine.

Ok, thx a lot. My green has a little difference in the curves on the egdes. The Pin/ key pulls each direction and i will have to make a compromise top/ buttom, I think i am able to get it straight and even with point ajustments. I will try tomorrow...

I use point a bit - to correct some waviness on the LH edge, and a linearity issue with blue.

Just don't go nuts.

That is exactly the same with my setup. I have the same small waveness on the egdes... Mark...do you use the internal or an external source when you calibrate (test dvd/ br?, which one?)?? On the setup "CP" DVD he is using the internal pattern just sync'ed with the signal from the input source (HTPC for me) I did the same with good result (can always be better!!) but many heer recommed always to use external pattern but are there any diffs this will be the same.right??

Klaus,

For convergence and focus I put together a simple Test pattern program. It's just a single exe file unzip and run.

http://www.acdnow.com/misc/testpattern.zip

It does require .NET framework 2.0 with XP but the framework is included with Vista.

There are also may others available. I prefer an external pattern, I think the lines are too think with the built in patterns.

For grayscale AVSHD 709 works well used with Kal's Grayscale for Dummies guide

Well, this link here...Mike... It's quite strange to me?? 6 small pictures showing like 1:1 mapping test screen?? Does this link/ program only have one test pattern (no!!) or how do i switch to the others??? I have FW3 installed (runing BeyondTVlink here TOO(required to this):-)

I forgot to tell you how to use the cross hatch. Double click on a black area. You then will have a dialog box come up to setup the cross hatch. Press esc to close the program.

How do those rules of thumb transfer to something like a Barco, where there's no geometry controls for R/B? Even with correct electronic adjustment to get centering/h width correct, you need to do a relatively large amount of point convergence - without it, the best it seems possible to do is get within 5 to 7% at the corners!
