Hey there everyone,
I just got a refurbished ps3 to replace my old one with a picture problem. I tested it in store and everything seemed fine, the discs that I was having a problem with before seemed to be working fine. I sit down tonight to watch Chungking Express and the blu ray disc wouldn't pop up on my menu. I tested all my other movies, 14 in all, and 4 of them are having this problem (Band of Brothers, Iron man, and There will be Blood as well). This seems like a really weird issue to have, a playstation selectively rejecting discs. Any ideas anyone?

thanks a bunch in adavance, I'm desperate.

It's possible that they are trying to access BD-Live. If you disable that, they should load up just fine.

I don't think that would prevent them from showing up in the XMB though would it? Maybe it's having trouble reading dual layer discs or something.

check for pizza grease too. Seriosuly, sometimes a smudge on the disk is all it is. Bludio lasers are fickle ones.

I had this same issue last night with dumb and dumber from netflix. There were some slight finger prints on it. It was not easy to eject the disc even w/ the bd remote.
I'm kinda scared to clean it and try again.

Firmwares totally up to date, turning off the internet connection didn't work, and the discs can't be dirty because one of the ones I tried I had never taken out of the box before. Looks like I need to get back on the phone with Sony.
Thanks though everybody, I'll post what sony says.

I just tried the disc in another ps3. Same issue. Mine must be a disc problem.

yeah, rental discs are always kinda iffy. I think people use them as coasters before giving them back, or Frisbees.
