I recently purchased a Winegard AP-8833 pre amp.
I realized after I received that it was the wrong unit (my mistake).
I received a 300 ohm input but I need a 75 ohm input.
Is there any problem with me simply using a matching transformer ?
or
Will that introduce a db drop and noise ?
(I can't send it back because its a cross-border purchase and the shipping plus brokerage fess for a replacement are too much)
Thanks
It looks like only the input(s) is 300 ohm and the output (line from the preamp to the power supply) is 75 ohm. Most antennas are 300 ohm anyway, so you shouldn't even need a matching transformer.

If your antenna is like one of the new Winegard models that is 75 ohm out, yes you could use a balun.
Scroll down to the topic in Bold on Baluns and it shows -0.5 to -2.0 db loss, depending on frequency and brand.

The previous post is correct use a piece of 300 ohm twinlead to connect the antenna to the preamp if the antenna has a pair of screws to connect to the cable. If it has an F connector you can use the preamp with a matching balun and a piece of coax. This does give one more difficult to get at part to fail in the future.
