And I need a plasma that's 3D ready between 40-50 inches. Will be 8 feet away from the set. Help me stimulate the economy!

I read some where that some plasmas can't show 3D images. Maybe it was just some bs?

Please give an example of a TV that displays the 3D images you need.

You telling me that you gonna have to start wearing cheesy glasses to watch TV.

I have been to a few movies this year in 3D and they were quite nice, but I sure wouldn't want to watch TV like that.

Crap looks like I might as well buy another bulb for my projector then since the article said 3-4 before it becomes widespread.

ANother 3-4 for 3-D on Plasma? Yes, I think Samsung has a 3-D Plasma set out, somewhere; But it is no where near your price range.

The only other choice for 3-D ready set is a DLP. All samsung DLP's are 3-D ready and most other brands are too. The only problem with that is that they need a PC connected to them for 3-D. They are usually very inexpensive in rather large sizes. WIth your money you should have no problem getting at least a 60".

Or go with the recommended Plasmas that are not 3-D ready.

THese guys are just messing with you here. But seriously give more info than what your giving.

gr689, Bought my daughter the 50" PX80 for her livingroom for casual viewing

I think it all depends on what you will be using the set for & if it's for "Casual Viewing" go for the PX80 but if you want a "Quality Picture" & "Picture Processing" the PZ80 & PZ85 ARE NOT in the same class as the PZ800 or PZ850 as far as I'm concerned & if your not going to be hooking it up to a Surround Sound System get the 800 or 850 because they both have the best sound quality of just about any plasma's made.

I like the PZ850 because of the Pro Controls it has & if you have it calibrated as I think it has a better picture than the PZ800 that has the "THX" Picture mode.

Well each to his own & that's why Panny makes so many different Models/Series & you may never see prices like these again for Top-Of-The-Line Models?

To me, the difference in picture quality between these pannys is so minimal that it wouldn't make a difference to the average tv watcher. I would be able to see the difference but people new to the HDTV era would not;considering were talking only between the hand ful of panasonic plasma throughout the last few years of course. I just think if someone was to get a set a certain price at or under 50" that 1080p may not be the most important thing to them. I have a Panny 9uk that I love. It was my first real purchase of a Plasma or any HDTV and it did the trick. I would like to have a 1080p but for the money at the time I would rather have a 50". I just think that a 720p set is not a bad buy for a first time buyer or newbie, so to speak. I do personally like the pro controls, I have them on my 9uk and I don't know how I could do without them now. Just not enought tweakability for me.

The only thing that I wouldn't like about some of the commercial panasonics is the anti-reflective screen matte. I heard that doesn't help the picture at all. For the most part, I can see the difference now but its still nothing to waste so much money over for me. My next TV is going to have to be a 65", so i figure if your going to go up to 3,000 then might as well go for the 4,800 dollar set.

PS did they remove my comment where I was talking about Newe$$?? I guess they must have!

An interesting feature found on the Samsung PN42A450 and the Samsung PN50A450 plasma HDTV is '3D' support. This means that it is possible to view 3D movies and gaming using special 3-D glasses. This renders the Samsung PN-A450 HDTVs unique in that as far as we know, these are the world's first HDTVs within the entry-level category that are 3D-ready.

Needless to say, the 3-D feature is not on 'the more expensive' Samsung TV's. While it may not be a feature most will use...some might find it very entertaining.

Back to the topic of discussion.
I would say that if you're buying a plasma of 50 inches or less, 1080p is basically irrelevant as in this size TV there is almost no noticable difference in PQ between 1080p and 720p....especially so in a 42inch set. For $1300 or less I would definitely say the PZ85 is the standout choice above all of them...or the PN50A550....assuming you can find one of these for that price. I think with the new Sammy's coming out starting in March...and the rest of the pack following, you'll see some great deals on both those TV's in the very near future, if not already.

I would say either the 50A550 or 650, Samsung usually has crazy sales going on until the end of February.

I would say that you are about a week late missing an exceptional deal. I just purchased my PN50A510 from BB with the free Samsung LN19A450 and the $200 NFLShop.com gift certificate for $150 less than you want to spend. I would highly recommend this or the A550 series Plasma(same sets basically).

Hmm I think I could hold out until March. Looking at the Sammy 50A550 right now. I failed to mention that sound quality from speakers won't be a problem because my sound system rocks with Infinity Betas and Outlaw subwoofer.

Question though. Would I be able to view current 3D titles on any set? Journey to the Center of the Earth would be an example. That article got me thinking it wouldn't work cause I would need one of the tvs mentioned.

RU serious? I'm sorry to sound callous but have you done any research on 3-D at all? I mean even a google would help you to understand the tech.

The 3-D available on discs right now, including bluray and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D will work on ANY TV!! They are just the regular blue and red 3-D that we've been using for 30 years or more. Anything beyond that like 3-D from the theatres is not available to the public yet or for home viewing. Some very small applications from the DLP tv's, that I have mentioned already, work with a PC connected to them; this will give you the theatre style 3-D, with the polarized glasses, NO RED AND BLUE. As for what movies work with it, I have no idea, and don't think it will be as good as the theateres because the content just isn't there for it. I think it may mainly be for some video games, actually there is quite a few videogames it will work for.

I'm sorry but please do a little research on the subject if your so interested in it. This is a forum to discuss such things but bringing knowledge to the table that is difficult to find is the best approach to threads on the forum. Just my advice.

i think he is confused around what are being written about 3-D things to come.
but these plans are just that, plans for a new 3-D standard.
there are no standard now, and it may be quite a long time before its coming.
