mkoesel 02-01-09, 08:31 PM The game looks pretty damn good on my 50" 7UY too. Except there is mucho SDE sitting here 5 feet away on the laptop. I need a PF 11UK :)
mariachi 02-01-09, 09:05 PM Holy moly....those speakers make the 58" look tiny...
I assume that's got to be a temporary setup by the looks of it. Must sound strange with the center so far below the screen.
lipcrkr 02-01-09, 09:43 PM No matter which display you're watching the Super Bowl on it's clear the refs are Steeler fans.
sullly11 02-01-09, 09:51 PM uh oh!
chadmak09 02-01-09, 10:13 PM so when is the super bowl??
Cleveland Plasma 02-01-09, 10:16 PM When we fly you out to hear the swans.........
Either way good game. Cardinals did a good job.
those are some big ass speakers..... it was a good game... some b/s calls in the 3rd qt... i mean my god are they playing football or what?
discopaul 02-02-09, 01:15 AM Chris, in another thread did you say those speakers were custom? They kinda looked like Genesis or Infinitis.
BrownTown 02-02-09, 01:42 AM No matter which display you're watching the Super Bowl on it's clear the refs are Steeler fans.
Yea, I was pulling for the steelers, and I even thought it was one sided. But I guess if you hold every play, it's hard to call.
nolanski 02-02-09, 01:46 AM An $2800 display with 25K or more? speakers...heh heh.
The superbowl looked PERFECT on my Samsung 650.
nolanski 02-02-09, 01:52 AM so when is the super bowl??
June 15th

As noted in the thread, that is temporary. ( I threw it together as I just moved, and the speakers just came in.)
Speakers are not custom. Plenty more are available for the right guy.
They are big, not to light, and pretty exspensive at a MSRP of $54,000. The sound is incredible.
jimbo4242 02-02-09, 09:44 AM The PQ of the game on NBCHD last night was some of the best broadcast HD I have seen on my plasma. The PQ was absolutely crystal clear and I would go as far as say almost blu-ray quality . It was unbelievable, I wish all broadcast HD looked like that. That right there is the reason why we buy plasma technology.
creemail 02-02-09, 09:55 AM Looks great Chris! However, where can your company or friends sit within the living/family room. LOL!

Must be a pretty big room. I agree that the set looks tiny against those towers though. Need to upgrade to at least a 65"...

I agree. I could see the sweat on BIG BEN'S face like he was sitting next to me, there in the last couple of minutes of the game, not to mention the tight butts in those football pants....WOOOO HOOOOO ;)
creemail 02-02-09, 10:11 AM Hey Chris,
Match the speakers with a Pioneer 151FD. That would look sweet. ;)

I really had no dog in this fight, but still I had picked the Steelers to win. Afterwards, I thought that the Cardinals played extremely hard at times. but kept shooting themselves in the foot. I mean, look what happened just before the Halftime when they were on the two yard line. Why the heck do you attampt that pass when you've a first rate running back in Edgerin James????...THEN, the the big guy that intercepts goes for 100 yards to score running out the clock! A shocker, for sure. Then the damn penalties. On one Steeler drive, the Cards had 4 or 5 (I lost count) BIGtime penalities allowing the Steelers to continue the drive & score. Finally, lets look at the very last Steeler drive w/a little over 2 minutes on the clock. All of a sudden, the Cards change their defensive strategy and don't rush Ben, allowing him all that time to pick & throw strikes down field. That play in the end zone on that drive, there were 3 Card defenders around that guy, not to mention Ben again was left too much time to throw. The Steelers did not make that same mistake when the Cards got back the ball w/38 seconds and 2 timeouts left in the game. They rushed and harried Kurt Warner on every play, and ended the threat of his throws and thus the game.
An $1800 display?
I just had to ask. Where can you get this display for 1800?
Cleveland Plasma 02-02-09, 12:20 PM The Steelers got lucky, they could have easily lost.

LMAO... That's good!
duffman13 02-02-09, 04:43 PM great game (i'm a steeler fan) but the cards could very well have had it if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot so much.
Thos swan speakers look awesome. My wife would kill me if i ever tried to buy something like those, she's mad enough about my medium-sized klipsch setup

The speakers I just picked up over the weekend from the guy in the white van are MSRP 25,000 and he let them go for 500 bucks. Great deal!!

Chris, not sure I've seen your comment on this before, but obviously you've picked the 800u over the 850u. Just curious as to why. I've sort of moved from the 58-800u to the 58-850 even though still not sure if I will wait for the 2009's. Nothing technical just a couple of impressions would be helpful. Thanks
simplemath 02-02-09, 09:53 PM so when is the super bowl??
I found out on the way to work today, that the superbowl was yesterday. Oh well saved the 151 from showing sports that is not formula 1.

Cant wait to watch some F1 on my new 5020, is speed showing it in HD this year? Lets go Lewis! :)
simplemath 02-02-09, 10:10 PM TSN is 1080i. Bell expresvu canada

Thanks The unit had bezel damage, very cheap :)
-800U has 5120 shades of gradation instead of 4096 like the 80U and 85U. 24P playback. THX mode. Different speakers. 1 Extra HDMI.
-850 adds Studio Ref Mode. Pro Settings. RS232C input. VieraCast (Internet). 850 loses the THX mode but adds a wider color gamut (Digital Cinema Color)
The question is if you need these added features ?? If so the cost is worth it.
The 850 is a tweakable set compared to the 800U, if someone has the time and knowledge to tweak. To say one is better than another would not be the right way to separate these two units, it is more about what a person wants to do with there set as these units are meant for two different types of people

Unlikely.
They'll have to start shooting it in HD first.

Thanks, I hear also that the 850u sound is better than the 800u and actually quite good(Better half hates separate speakers). Too bad the 800u has had massive sales while the 850 has not.
bluewave88 02-03-09, 03:39 AM so the 850u has better color but the 800u has better sound?
rptondo 02-03-09, 05:47 AM i love my 800u compare to my pioneer 4330... i know my pio is 5 years older than my panny... i've compare the two when i was watching superbowl. i watch it on my panny, standard settings and on my pio, dynamic settings... i would say that HD broadcast was awesome! i wonder how it sound when you have those swans like cleveland, i only have those mirage nanosat setup and definitive center but its already sounds great.
