When I goto Recording something onto DVD, it pops up recording error message, and says cannot do that to VR, does it when i wanna overwrite a dubbing (over the empty title) and when i wanna do a direct to Disc Recording

Any ideas what is causing that? is it cause at&t dishnetwork switched to DirecTV today?

It sounds like the program you're trying to record when your direct record to DVD, and the program you have the DVDR on when trying to overwrite the Empty Title both have some copy protection (CP). Sounds also like the CP is copy-once (CO) since the message says VR, which only the HDD could then record.

CO-protection allows you to record the program to the HDD but won't allow a copy to be made to a std DVD.

Been happening on CourtTV, HBO, Starz as well, Hard drive recording works fine

did get overwrite done by going to Hallmark channel, and then finalized the disc, and otherwise happy with the machine totally

You won't be able to control the CP thing on direct rec to DVD, but it appears you can for overwriting by picking that channel that worked! :)
