Hello,
I am hoping to find some guidance on how to view the contents of my laptop on my television. It seems straightforward, but I can not seem to get it to work. I have a Panasonic TH50PX80U (720p) plasma television and HP Pavilion dv 7-1135nr laptop with an ATI Radeon hd 3200 graphics card and the Catalyst Control Center 8.4 software and drivers. I am running on Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition. My TV does not have a PC input, so I am trying to connect via the HDMI port. I have tried to start the laptop with the HDMI cable plugged in and the TV on the HDMI component. I have tried hot plugging the HDMI cable. I have tried the Fn+F4. I have tried extending my monitor in the display settings. I have tried looking up my HDMI port in the BIOS (I did not find it). I am curious as to whether this is even possible with my TV. I am at a loss; if anyone has any information that would help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

since no one with this specific hardware has responded, i thought i will make one simple suggestion form my experience with dell. on my daughter's dell, the video port had to be "turned on" through an options menu for the display before the external monitor would work. so in your case, have you looked into the menus? is there a place to activate (turn on the) hdmi port.

don't hesitate contact the tech support for your computer..that's how i found out where the hidden button on the dell was.

just a shot....

zrenzi;
If you are still struggling with this I can tell you there is no reason it shouldn't work. I have the same TV and connect both a Sony lappy and more recently a desktop mini I built to use the Pany for a digital signage system. The lappy connects with SVideo or DVI to HDMI. For the desktop I've only tried HDMI but it works just fine for both audio and video.
You'll not get 1:1 pixel matching but the Panys scaler is pretty good and that - used in conjunction with the format selector (on the remote) and the zoom adjust (in menu) can get you a better than decent screen.
As mentioned previously, if you are having "issues" connecting - it's most likely a setting either on the lappy's output or the Pany's input.
