There are so many excellent light fixtures that don't require ceiling can holes in your ceiling. We get asked about this daily. I thought maybe I'd ask you guys for pics.

View Full Version : I Don't Want To See Your Can (lighting) Ted White 02-02-09, 11:57 AM There are so many excellent light fixtures that don't require ceiling can holes in your ceiling. We get asked about this daily. I thought maybe I'd ask you guys for pics. Ted White 02-03-09, 05:35 PM no takers, eh? guamguam 02-03-09, 06:33 PM I'm sorry I can't help, I used cans and lots of them :) Art Sonneborn 02-03-09, 07:01 PM How about someone elses can ? http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p146/CarlosMeat/Keira-Agustina_Photo_147.jpg Ted White 02-03-09, 07:02 PM Art, who are you kidding? That looks nothing like your can Art Sonneborn 02-03-09, 07:15 PM Art, who are you kidding? That looks nothing like your can Ted ,you asked not to see my can so in the true spirit of AVS Forum I obliged.:D Art MacBuster 02-03-09, 07:20 PM This thread is a winner. OTOH, I wouldn't mind seeing non-can light fixtures. Kevin_Wadsworth 02-04-09, 10:53 AM My first thought was to wonder why Ted was so familiar with what Art's can looked like, but I decided not to go there... Anyway, on topic, I've attached a picture of my theater that (barely) shows some of the lighting I'm using. I have a black fabric ceiling and put in two rows of black track lighting on the ceiling. I've espoused the use of track lighting in several threads because I think it is great for a theater. I didn't have to cut holes in my DD/GG ceiling, and I didn't have to build fancy boxes around the lights. The black-on-black blends into the ceiling and I love having a narrow-beam, directable light source so that I can have light at the seating area but not wash out the screen. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m157/kwadswor/Basement%20Finishing/HPIM0869.jpg Ted White 02-04-09, 11:50 AM Kevin, that's really great. If you ever have an opportunity to get a shot of those lights in better lighting, I'll send you a Twinkie. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you. As far as Art's can, the Hometheater Enthusiasts of Michigan (HEMI) group is very close... BIGmouthinDC 02-04-09, 12:55 PM I'll play, This was a brain fart I had on how to shine a little light on my marquee. It is two 4 ft LED strip lights from IKEA mounted in a strip of molding that I notched to hold the strip at an angle. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC00292.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC00288.jpg Of course there are the fifty 11 watt theater marquee bulbs underneath: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC00347.jpg under-construction: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC00318.jpg LED rope light under the bar: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC01535.jpg and turn them all on: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b393/bigmouthindc/DSC01523.jpg Guess I need to take a pic with the cans off to make Ted Happy. Ted White 02-04-09, 12:58 PM :eek::eek::eek::eek: wow. wow. That is some setup Big. Thanks for those! dc_pilgrim 02-04-09, 01:15 PM Some one ought to post their star ceiling. . . . For track lighting, not my theater to post, but DKaps has the best example that I can think of: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=8529101#post8529101 I did have some new pictures taken about a month ago. It's REALLY tough to capture the right look and mood. Here's a few of the interesting ones... http://www.heartlandhometheater.com/theater/Complete_1.jpg http://www.heartlandhometheater.com/theater/Complete_2.jpg http://www.heartlandhometheater.com/theater/Complete_3.jpg Dan BIGmouthinDC 02-04-09, 01:19 PM I've always been impressed with this company's selection of 400 styles of paint-able ceramic wall sconces. Some AVS builder painted this deco looking sconce with Behr metallic gold and silver paint at it was great looking. Can't remember who. http://www.fabby.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/large/106l.jpg http://www.fabby.com/page/FABBY/CTGY/Classic Ted White 02-04-09, 01:21 PM Great, great and great!
