I am currently using a D-Link DIR-615 as my Wireless router hooked up to my desktop. My PS3 and 58PZ800U are on a different floor of the house. I am looking for solutions to boost the signal as a hard wired connection is not an option for me. I heard that I could get an access point and that would boost the signal but i'm not really sure if that is true.
Another solution I have heard of is running it through your electrical outlets which sounds a bit weird but may work as well as a wired solution? I am severely limited by the construction of my home which wont allow a drop in the wall between the floors. Are either of these viable - or - is there another suggestion or recommendation? Thanks!

Electrical outlets is not gonna do it. If I were you, I'd look at getting a router you can load DD-WRT on, and use that as your router. You have the option of cranking up the signal power, or you can use it to expand your existing network if you put it in a particular mode, I cant recall which one at the moment.
here is some info:

Have you tried replacing the antennae on your router? Radio Shack or Newegg will high gain (7db - 9 db) antenna that work.
I have my office (and router) on the 2nd floor and the home theater / PS3in the basement. Once I changed the antennae in the router, the signal improved nicely and I have no problems.
In general, an access point simply gives you the capability to plug in additional units that won't work with wireless; it isn't intended to boost a signal. Having said that, you can also replace the antenna on the access point.
You can also try Powerline Adapters. They give mixed results and didn't work for me.

good call on the antenna, i had forgotten my friend did the same thing with great results and much cheaper!
Thanks for the suggestions. Are the antenna's a universal fit?

They should be, if they are removable.
Here are a couple more options. Purchase a wireless repeater. Wireless repeaters sap 50% of your bandwidth, but you should be fine at 27Mbits.
You can also purchase a business grade Access Point. (3COM, Cisco, high end Linksys or Dlinks.) Those APs output mW than consumer APs.

i imagine that if I go the antenna route I need two new ones, one for each side. I notice they seem to be sold one to a package.
