Hello!

I'm a little ignorant to this, so here it goes.:o

I have a Panny plasma with no built in tuner, it's just a display only. I'm currently using it with a Motorola cable box from Comcast. However, I'd like to move the plasma to the bedroom in which I don't have an extra cable box laying around. What would be the best avenue or aproach in something aftermarket to connect a regular cable outlet and have something that will output in HDMi to my display? I'd like to have an HD DVR box, would the TiVO boxes be my best option here??

Thanks for all the help guys!

Mike

If you want HD-DVR then yes Tivo-HD is your best option.

Thanks for the response! How about something like this if I didn't want DVR? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000JV6TQY/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header

It would work if you don't mind not getting anything Comcast might encrypt in your area.

TiVo HD would have a cableCARD slot. Renting a cableCARD from Comcast would put back those channels. The Samsung doesn't have that option.

I see... Thanks!

Ok, another question... What's the big difference then between the TiVo XL and the Regular HD DVR, besides the larger HD? There is huge price difference between the two, and I can't see how a larger HD justifies the price gap. Website doesn't have a whole of info, about the only diff I see is HD space.

I believe the Tivo-XL is THX certified, for whatever that's worth.

I guess they have to recoup the cost of the certification.

Samsung DTBH260F HDTV Terrestrial ReceiverIf I were going to go with just a tuner, I'd probably get something like this:

http://www.epvision.com/

At least then you'll get all the available extended basic analogs, too, as long as they're still sending them.
