my denon avr-788 will not communicate with my new sony kdl46z4100b lcd tv and bdps550 blu-ray player, using hdmi cables.
The tv and blu-ray acknowledge each other and work fine.
when the hdmi cables are used, blu-ray to first input on the denon and monitor output to tv input, nothing. The tv will highlight the input to recognize the connection, but says no signal is available. [if i run the cable between hdmi #2 on the denon to the tv =nothing again only the monitor output gives andy sign of life.]
After about 6 hours of going through the manual and turning on and off and changing various inputs nothing has changed. No sound, no picture,- nothing.

I can get sterio audio from the tv using rca audio cables but nothing from either of the two hdmi cables that i am using and both cables work fine between the blu-ray and the tv, so it is not the cables.

I hope that it is somethins simple but not too obvious to fix this,so i will not feel too foolish. What can I do ???

Hello and welcome to the forum, the AV Receivers section would probably be the best place to ask this and/or search for help on your particular AVR.

Make sure the DVD/HDP input source is HDMI 1.

Make sure the DVD/HDP input source is HDMI 1.

It is.

When i switch the tv to the rca inputs for the vcr or the receiver they both work. the tv will display the tuner stations and volume OR the menu functions for the receiver.

When i switch to the hdmi input for the blu-ray [wired direct to the tv, not through the receiver] it works fine.

when i switch to the hdmi input for the receiver - nothing to or from the tv. and if i plug the hdmi cable from the blu-ray into the receiver, - nothing to the tv, and no sound to the receiver.

Maybe check the output resolution of the Denon. Make sure it is supported by the TV. Also make sure the Denon supports the output resolution of the blu-ray.

This is probably an HDMI handshake issue. You might need to play around with the order you are turning things on. Try turning on the blu ray player first, then the receiver, then the TV.

That sounds far too simple.

BUT IT WORKED. Every thing works fine now.

THANKS.
