View Full Version : 6PGXtra just stop working ?????
shar1950 02-03-09, 05:58 PM I have a 6pgXtra that is ceiling mounted with a hush box, and large fan in the next room pulling air out of Pj. The air coming into the pj is a long narrow opening just below the lens.
Today while watching a soccer game the pj just stop working and shut itself off. I thought maybe it was getting hot,so removed bottom half of hush box and let it sit for about 1/2 hour. When I turn it back on,it started up normally and the green gun was on really bright, and with hortizical lines going a cross the screen. It stayed on for about 20 seconds and shut itself off. The blue or red guns did not come at all. And there was no video when the green gun came on, just lines.
Could some one please help me with this problem, I just don't know where to start

Curt Palme 02-04-09, 11:39 AM I just emailed you. Your green CRT socket is bad, I've got stock, but sent you some troubleshooting tips to make sure that the CRT socket is bad.
Mark_A_W 02-04-09, 06:37 PM Interesting.
The green has a bad neckboard.
But you still should get a normal image on Red and Blue.
Curt Palme 02-04-09, 07:10 PM NOt if the green has runaway brightness, and then shuts the set down. The AKB will disable the R and B tubes.

Ditto
Mark_A_W 02-05-09, 12:52 AM I've never seen that.
I've replaced two blue neckboards that have had the full lit raster with retrace lines, but in both cases the sets ran regardless.
shar1950 02-05-09, 08:25 PM Curt...you are right that the green gun neck board is screwed. The red and blue gun light up and the unit stays running, so I need another neckboard. I e-mailed you this morning, just waiting for more info.
Can the green neckboard be removed, without taking the unit down from the ceiling ?
shar1950 03-06-09, 05:56 PM Afew weeks ago I replaced the green crt socket and the unit was still doing the same thing. The green tube would go very bright and the unit just shut itself down. This week I also replace the green tube that Curt had said must be shorted. Now the unit just stays on a few seconds and then shut itself off,but the tubes do not go bright. I have no way to get the error code from the unit, I don't know if that is possible with unit. So has any one else have Nec 6pgxtra that had this type of problem ?
draganm 03-07-09, 11:20 AM I have no way to get the error code from the unit, I don't know if that is possible with unit. why not? It should display an error code on LED window in back and possibly at least point you in the right direction.
There is a dual segment LED display that will read ‘00’ if the set is working properly. The display will (usually) display an error code if there’s a fault in the set, and (usually) the error code will direct you to the right area of the set that’s faulty. Note that this display is not 100% accurate, and some faulty error codes have been known to be displayed when something fails.
read Curt's NEC section
http://www.curtpalme.com/NECPG_Layout1.shtm
shar1950 03-07-09, 02:29 PM I should have read Curt's Nec section a little closer, I now have a error code that reads " F8 " . After carefully reading that section, it says that the pg convergence board could be the one that is causing this shut down problem. I removed the power going to that board, at the connector. The pj now stays running there is no error code has before, just reads [00]. So this is the problem with the set,now I need another convergence board, anyone have one for sale ?
draganm 03-07-09, 11:51 PM what about that "really bright green tube" issue. That couldn't be the convergence board could it?
shar1950 03-08-09, 08:56 PM when I replaced the crt socket and put in another green tube, that problem went away, I wonder if the crt socket is still good and it was the tube that was the problem.
PalmGoon 03-10-09, 11:15 PM I have the same problem
shar1950 03-12-09, 12:25 PM So what have you replaced so far ? What error code are you getting ? When I replaced the green tube, the" really bright green tube " issue went away.
shar1950 03-28-09, 04:06 PM Well after some work, the convergence board and another green tube, and the green crt socket board have now been replaced. The pj starts up fine and stays running, but all colours are all over the place. This morning I reset all setting to zero and started all over to set up this pj again. I set " contrast to Zero" and "brighten to zero " and the blue and the red tube raster disappeared but the green tube stayed fully visuable. I don't have any control over it.
Any idea what would cause this ????
shar1950 03-29-09, 04:20 PM Can some-one lead me into the right direction ,to try some thing.
