My box is so slow I want to stomp it!!!! I only have a couple of hours of hd recorded programs saved. Direct TV wants me to re format it.Has anyone done this.And what is the easiest way to get the recorded material to a laptop,and then back in the HD DVR? (is that even possible)It has a usb port.
What I mean by slow is , when I change channels it takes like 15 sec. to change to the next channel!When I first got the box it was not that slow.

Just a long shot but turn off Native mode if it's on, instructions are in the manual. You can't save your recordings if you need to reformat it.

You've done the (RBR) red button reset? Like said if you reset everything or even last resort reformat your DVR you will lose everything on the DVR.
Your DVR being so slow reminds me of my hate of MICROSOFT software. Often times I feel like taking a hammer to my computer, or better yet BILL GATES.
