Hi Folks
I have the Panny DMR EZ27 dvd recorder and this morning the tray will not eject and reads no disc (has a disk inside). I went through the reset procedures in the manual but still havent gotten this to open. Is there a manual release for these? I was reading possibly on the bottom of the unit or poss taking apart?
Thanx for your input.

IIRC, you press the stop button and the channel up/down button on the unit itself simultaneously, holding down for at least 5 secs.

Thanx for the replies folks, That picture showed a slot on the bottom of the unit so I may not have to take it a part. Hopefullty this is just a glitch and my player isnt dead
If you're getting U99 it just may be dead. I had 6 EZ-17/27s die with U99. Good luck with yours.

I would also suggest that you should examine that disc for dirt or grease, and/or obvious defects. The disc may be the problem, especially if it's an inferior brand (Memorex). I would not attempt to reuse that disc.
In my experience the U99 error is not always fatal:

The DMR-EZ17 described in the linked 9/27/2008 post has been in current daily use since that time. It has been reasonably reliable but has had occasional lockups and the scheduled recording "pause/record/freeze at 00:00:00," the most recent of which "pause/record/freeze at 00:00:00" occured as this post was being revised to include the below link! Pressing STOP, ENTER, brought up the "writing to disc" countdown that froze the machine at 100%. The reset button behind the front panel fold-down door was then pressed and the machine powered down. Following that the POWER button brought the machine back up in time to manually initiate recording of the scheduled recording that was no longer found in the schedule menu. (The scheduled recording was set to start two minutes earlier than the actual starting time of 10:00 a.m. PST.) This EZ17 has been the better one of two EZ17 models that will be rotated into standby service in the near future.
This post also addresses the U99 error:

thanks for the replies again. I got the disk out using the manual release on the bottom, unfortunately the drive in the player is dead and not responding to any commands. This player barely made it past 1 year, hopefully the next will be better.
Search the forums closely. While newer EZ Panasonics can make some great recordings unfortunately reliability isn't one of there strong points:(
IMO the x7 series were about as bad as it gets. The current x8 series has proven to be somewhat better.
If you could swing it the Philips 3576 and Magnavox 2160 both w/hdds have proven more reliable than most other DVDRs including Panasonic.
