I just bought a Magnavox H2160MW9 HDD & DVD PLAYER/RECORDER.
I was able to make the S-Video work based on the information in this forum.
Unfortunately, I'm getting video but no sound. What do I have to do next, in order to get sound through the S-Video connection. It is connected to L1.
I have another satellite box connected to the Front L2 through RCA cables and I get video and sound.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?
It will be greatly appreciated.

Like a composite video connection, S-video doesn't carry any audio. To get audio you'll need to also connect a pair of left/right audio cables between the Magnavox and your HDD/DVD recorder. There should be a pair of RCA left/right audio connectors close to the S-Video jacks on both pieces of equipment.
S-Video is video only, so you must also connect the R/L audio cables. Pardon me if you have done this, but you didn't specifically state it, and I didn't want to overlook the obvious...
Sean beat me by seconds... :D

I do have the R/L Audio Out RCA cables going from the Magnavox DvD Recorder to my Onkyo A/V System. The funny thing is that I have another satellite box connected to the Front L2 jacks via RCA Cables and I get sound from that signal, but when I switch to L1, where the Directv Box is connected throught the S-Video, there is no sound.
Since I connected both satellite boxes nearly simultaneously, it seemed to me that when I connected the S-video, video and sound came out at the same time, but as soon as I connected the L2, and tried to go back to L1, there was no more sound, even if I unplugged L2, unplugged L1, plugged it L1 back in and turned the unit off and on again.

I had to connect audio out cables from the Directv satellite box to the Maganvox DVD Recorder in addition to the S-Video cable and that way I was able to get sound through the recorder.

But why is the video not so clean when you view a channel through the Magnavox?
How is your STB hooked to your TV, and is your STB HD?
Anything going through your Maggy will be SD and possibly postage stamped depending on source.
