I should have said if you've gotten the platinum and 100%'ed the game there's no replayability factor...

screwing around in multiplayer?I'll still play MP occasionally...mainly when co-op comes out on the 22nd.

I guess I really have no point. :D

Great game.

I wish that the respawn in free roam would work better so you dont get stuck in the middle of a 6 on 1 death match.

I wish that the respawn in free roam would work better so you dont get stuck in the middle of a 6 on 1 death match.God. Seriously. Why not just let us choose our respawn point? And/or choose to end a game mode or gang hideout raid and keep playing? I had the crappiest experience ever trying to get away from a posse on a rampage.

After getting a bit further with the online challenges, I'm starting to see that people who I thought were acting like jerks were probably just going for some of the Outlaw challenges, like becoming a Public Enemy and then getting a certain kill streak against other players, or killing a Public Enemy as a Public Enemy, etc.

I think the fact that a lot of those challenges work against each other is funny, but it leads to misunderstandings -- for example, last night I got kicked from a game for killing a Public Enemy holed up in Chuparosa multiple times, and it occurred to me that he was probably going for the $5000 bounty challenge and I kept ruining it for him. And when I was trying to do a Public Enemy with kill streak challenge, of course I'd target players who were distracted because they were in the middle of a gang hideout, since that maximized my chances of a clean kill, but I'm sure it was infuriating to them. Oh well.

I also finally realized why I'd sometimes see people only using knives and thrown weapons in Tesoro Azul and Gaptooth Ridge...LOL. I felt a little silly doing those challenges alongside other people, but it was funny.

- Jer

I spent 3 hours last night with my brother and strangers doing carnage in El Presidio and Armadillo. We were going for the Bounty challenges but then another posse came and killed us... so the war started! After the riot in Armadillo we went into El Presidio and it was incredible! Later I made a 2 man posse with my brother in El Matador (I think that's the place) to get the bounty challenge but we fail at around 7 minutes :(

Lots of fun to be had against the Mexican Army. They are really stronger than the lawmen up North.

I think 9.5 is a tad high. It is a good game, but lots of little things take away from the experience. The dumb fetch quest and stuff stranger ask John to do are plain dumb. There are also issues with what order you do main mission in and how the people respond to you. There are also no real high points for the game, no "Damn that was badass!". Missions just turn onto kill 50 bandits and watch a cutscene most of the time. I'm compelled to see where the story is going, but the actual game play is pretty dull.

The AI is so janky in the Presdio that although its a grind, its THE place to get this done. I've spent a day there and was up to 25x. I throw a fire bottle from the cannon located just right of the main doors (facing out) to get army on me. You'll get several coming at you on horseback until "X" amount spawn behind you. That's when they stop coming at you on horses. You'll then need to get off the cannon, take cover, kill 2-3 coming up the stairs then that will respawn the guys on horseback. Repeat until you die. I've purposely got killed upon getting public enemy so not to attract players.

The only time I've been killed by the army was from the horseback guys. The guys behind you have a very hard time targeting you while on the cannon.

http://grandtheftauto.ign.com/articles/news/5477/FREE-Co-Op-Multiplayer-Expansion-for-Red-Dead-Redemption

Well, Rockstar have done it again. They just announced today that they are releasing a free co-op multiplayer DLC package for Red Dead Redemption containing six missions, called Outlaws to the End. It will be releasing this June on XBox 360 and PS3. From the press release, here is a short description of three of the missions:

Walton’s Gold
Walton’s Gang have taken control of a mining camp rich with gold. Fight through the camp and load your mine cart with as much gold as you can carry and get out as fast as you can – Walton’s boys have rigged the place to blow!

The River
Ride a raft down river, taking out rebel encampments along the way until you reach the rebel stronghold of Nosalida and a final epic battle for the town’s massive weapons caches. Watch out for Gatling gun-equipped enemy rafts.

Ammunition
The Mexican Army has the town of Tesoro Azul under siege. Storm the gates under heavy cannon, Gatling gun and sniper fire to destroy the Mexican artillery placements.

So tonight I was going for the "Get a 7-kill streak as a public enemy" challenge. Some bozo was trying to hunt me as soon as I got P.E. status, and I was able to kill him 5 times in a row without a problem. Then he leaves the session, and I'm down by Chuparosa while the only other people in the game are up in Pike's Basin. Since you can't fast travel as a public enemy, I had to hoof it up there. I finally get to the rim of the basin and snipe the two guys doing the gang hideout, getting me up to 7 kills in a row as a public enemy, and...nothing. WTF. I get another kill and the game says I'm now on a 3-kill streak. Oh, wonderful -- there's apparently a time limit involved, too.

So I try to keep going on those guys, and I think I got up to 5 kills before one of them tagged me. 10 unanswered kills as a P.E. and nothing to show for it. Oh well.

I took a chance on the DLC, but now the game gets stuck on the loading screen more often than not, and public free roam is really messed up. Hideouts often have no enemies, so you can get free XP over and over. Gaptooth Breach is completely broken, with a pile of tipped over mine carts that can't be used. Basically, it's a mess -- but if you want to max out your character, stand at Twin Rocks and just keep replaying it when you automatically win after 4 seconds.

I got the endless loading when trying to get into multi. We had someone go in through solo into multi, then send invites.

The first mission (ammunition) was a royal pain, but once we figured it out, we did alright, the rest were not that bad. We got gold on all but the river one. Don't know what it takes to get gold, unless it is timed. that was our longest mission at almost 15 minutes, but we got over $6400 among the 4 of us.

Nice change over just completing the gang hideouts.

Once we were done I could only do solo again, I could not get back into multi.

Sonies
06-23-10, 09:51 AM
yeah the mission called "Ammunition" is the uber difficult one

jhaines
06-23-10, 02:19 PM
Yes, I noticed that solo -> multi is much more reliable than trying to go directly. Also, private free roam appears to work correctly as long as you never go into a glitchy public free roam (then the hideout issue follows you back to private).

I also noticed that "do X within Y game hours" challenges carry across sessions, so I took advantage of the problems to ace the Lawbringer III challenges -- for the Gaptooth Breach ones I'd start in an unpolluted private session to get around the mine cart problem, then switch to public to blow through the remaining hideouts with no enemies. And I boosted myself to level 50, because I was already in the high 30s legitimately, and I figured I deserved it for putting up with this game-breaking B.S...

Same here, took the chance and wish I hadn't (as I was having fun with the game as is). The load time "loop" has been unbearable causing several log outs and reboots. Same free roam issues, i.e. no enemies, horse glitches (none available, doesn't show up when you whistle or when it does, it disappears right when it gets to you).

I'm pretty confident Rockstar will work these glitches out but it's going to be a PITA in the meantime.

.....or random people that shoot you in the face when you appoach them with no gun drawn. "Hey any of you guys want to..." <BANG> "I guess not....."

Last night I got to listen to a barrage of insults from two fine citizens who decided to keep spawn killing me. These are the people that it would be great to have the ability to pull back the veil of the internet and punch square in the face.....

I did get into some great co-op missions with three randoms last night. It's rare but when you find a couple decent guys to hang around with this game is amazing fun. I saw dogdoc on last night but there's no way to tell if you are playing single player or multi so I didn't want to bother him. (I wish you could see that like in BFBC2)

Finally got my platinum last night -- all I had left was winning 3 public FFAs in a row, which I'd nearly done on several occasions. Last night I actually tried to get it illegitimately with another guy, but he couldn't follow instructions to save his life, so I wound up getting it the proper way. Camping next to the fire bottle spawn in Las Hermanas puts you at a huge advantage against less experienced players in a shootout. I even finished that 20 kill streak challenge during that session...LOL.

I'll probably keep messing with co-op for a while, but I think my interest is starting to wane. Doesn't seem like passing into legend is really worth the effort, though that buffalo mount would be funny...

Hey Guys,

I've finally completed the SP 100% last night. Now I need to work on MP. I saw you on too Grand. I am/still am waiting on KingShorty to do some MP with, but I'm sure he won't mind me getting in a few matched while he watches the World Cup. I'll be a complete noob at the MP but if you can help a fellow out it would be great. I just need the MP trophies for Plat (plus the damn 500 kills with mounted guns).

See you online.

PS. how do you see your MP invites. I got one the othernight and for the life of me couldn't find it to reply to.

Dog hit me up too. I need the Free for all, and team game wins.

The mounted guns are easy. In MP, go to the presidio (?) NE Mexico, there is a cannon on the in game map. shoot a lantern and the explosion will give you a wanted level (or throw dynomite or fire bottle). Climb up to a gun and shoot away. The more people doing it, the more federales will come after you. Goes relatively quick. I preferred this over doing it in SP.

To accept an invite. press select (or start) can't remember which gets you to the menu with map and stats. Scroll down to multiplayer and press X, in there there are choices and one will have a 1 after it (1 invite). Select it, and choose the erson who sent the invite.

When you are in free roam with them, join in a posse (hopefully they will send an invite). Otherwise you need to press select, then R1 to go to the screen where the others are in the world. Choose the person you want to invite or accept if the sent one already. If they sent an invite, it will appear as an envelope icon. Otherwise, if there is more than 1 in their posse, send your request to the player with the star icon (he is the posse leader, and only one who can invite you)

I seem to recall seeing alot in the snow up near Tanner's Ranch and Bear Claw area. I've seen them as far North as Nekoti Rock. But no matter the location, the best time to find them is just after dark. And if you find a spot. Shoot all 3 - 5, wait patiently and more will likely spawn in the direct vicinity.

anyone else having mic issues in RDR?

this weekend, I could not hear anybody, but a few guys in with me could hear me. I asked them to shoot once if they could hear me, bang. Shoot twice if they could hear the other guy, silent.

I can see the mic icon with the waves behind it for both my mic and the others, I just hear nothing. Didn't know if it was just me and my mic, or others had issues too. I even restarted the machin. Happened all weekend.

oh well, I only need about 3 more levels to get the platinum.

If people are having issues getting the gold on the river, I read something today, that you need 10,000 cumulitively to get gold. So head shots and chains are a must. If you are with people just trying to get points, it won't happen.

Also if you need more points, when you get to the last town, the horse riders and the guys beyond the fence to the left will keep spawning until you clear out the center house. So just camp and get kills until you are ready. The site I read this on said they completed in 46 minutes and got the gold this way. I have not tried it because you need people who are not going to run out and try to get all the glory. And if someone gives up and leaves, you do not get their points they had earned. So you need to spend even longer camping in Nosaledo to get the points.

I've only got 2 of the advanced co-ops gold starred. I'd be down for a posse to take these on if anyone's playing them and sees me online.

I'm a little disappointed in the advanced missions. I would have much rather seen new missions (with expert aiming, etc.).

Chiahead

Advance isn't that bad. Remember, there is no time limit, so if you take your time, you can complete. Gold medals seem to be based off of score only.

As for my mic issues. I tried MW2 last night and couldn't hear anybody either. guess it is time to ditch the USB mic and go wireless... Or another USB.

I'm certainly not any kind of elite console shooter guy, and I agree that a pointing device is much better than a joystick for aiming, but I honestly don't understand why so many people are having trouble staying alive in advanced co-op.

If you're dying left and right, then you must be playing like Rambo. If you stay behind cover, you can pre-aim and just pop out to take your shots with minimal risk. When cover isn't available, you're almost always on a moving vehicle or mounted weapon, which also reduces your risk. Stay near at least one of your teammates at all times so they can revive you if you do happen to get killed. It's not rocket science...

It's not too much of an issue until all of your teamates abandon you to play rambo and you get picked off by one shot the second you think its safe to pop out of cover.

Lately I've been messing around with boating on floating stagecoaches, a.k.a. "stagecoach surfing". I managed to get across the river north of Great Plains on one (only to be greeted by an invisible wall), and today I finally pulled off a trip on the river in Tanner's Reach that took me all the way down to (and over) the giant waterfall. I captured that trip on my cell phone camera here, if anyone's interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gx5qbtE7LfM

Next I'm going to try to find a way to boat over Manteca Falls, though that may be tough given that the water isn't deep enough by the Old Bacchus Place and the shoreline seems too high further downstream -- but you never know.

Had some funny moments on the wagon on a couple tries. Well at least we were good enough to get 5 co op online based trophies.

We need a AVS clan so we can get more people to play co op.

Anyone wanting to play with me my PSN ID is: TraponeJr. Send me a message saying your AVS if your going to add me.

Thought I'd post this for yall
Rockstar's latest update to the 360 and PS3 versions of Red Dead Redemption goes about reducing grief in all its forms. This includes the kind of grief that arises due to pesky bugs, like the one that removes downloaded costumes from the player's inventory, or the one that screws up the geometry of sliding doors. It also limits the griefability of multiplayer cowpokes, automatically placing bounties on the head of anyone who racks up a six-kill streak. Click past the jump to see all the changes included in the update.

Oh, it also remedies a fairly humorous problem: "Occasionally, the player would not recover from being drunk." Oh, man, Red Dead Redemption. We're pretty sure we've all been there.

•While in Multiplayer Free Roam, if a player achieves a kill streak of 6 or more without dying, they will become a Public Enemy and receive a $1000 bounty.
•While in Multiplayer Free Roam, if killed three times by any human player and each death is within 80 seconds of respawn, the victim is given the option to respawn away from the area.
•Players now have the ability to swap shoulder buttons L1/L2, R1/R2.
•Players now have the ability to save game with cheats turned on.
•When playing the game with Region set to Asia, incorrect button prompts were displayed.
•Downloadable Outfits were not appearing in Change Outfits Menu after being unlocked.
•Invincibility cheat was turned off when activating Dead Eye.
•Occasionally, the player would not recover from being drunk.
•It was possible to have two player horses, with one permanently following the player.
•If equipped with the bandana, sliding doors would temporarily attach to the player's head.

Just a heads up for anyone who still plays this game online. Although it seems a lot of people on here have seemed to lost interest in playing this game.

In celebration of the release of the Liars and Cheats Pack for Red Dead Redemption this week, we're hosting our second Red Dead Redemption Double XP Weekend starting at 1PM Eastern today and lasting until 11:59 PM Eastern on Sunday.

I played multi player online last night for about 4 hours and managed to level up from level 16 to 23 by mainly playing Pikes Basin a couple times and playing hunting areas for wild bores and cougars a few times earns you a ton of XP. I'll be playing again the next 2 days trying to get to level 50 to get the legendary online trophy.

Also the new Liars & Cheats DLC is fun and is better than the 1st DLC pack they released for this game. The 2 related online trophies you can get for playing Liars Dice are very easy to get by playing a game with just 2 people.

So if anyone wants to play online this weekend add me & shoot me a message.

Hunt Jackalopes With Free Red Dead Redemption DLC

http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/rockstar/reddeadredemption/huntingandtrading/Hunting%20&%20Trading%20Pack%20009.jpg

Rockstar is throwing a new batch of Red Dead Redemption DLC off the back of the train on October 12. This free pack includes the hunting and trading outfits that were also-rans in the GameStop pre-order bonus voting. Completing the Savvy Merchant challenge allows you to buy guns and ammo from gun shops at half the price, and completing The Expert Hunter challenge doubles the amount of skins and hides you collect from each kill. Notice the fabled jackalope in the foreground – if you want to don the hunter's outfit, you'll need to track and bag one of these fearsome critters.

No chatter about Liars & Cheats? I've only played a bit of it so far (gambling and some new action areas), and I'm enjoying it. Nice to play Liar's Dice online, finally. And the people playing poker generally aren't the always-go-all-in types that you tend to get in free games on real poker sites.

The couple of new action areas I tried weren't anything special -- just waves of enemies for the new hideouts and waves of animals with a boss animal for the hunting grounds. You get an explosive rifle with 4 rounds of ammo for beating a new hideout, and as far as I can tell you can never carry more than 4 rounds at a time, which should limit abuse. I haven't shot a player with it yet, but it red-mists small animals without a problem.

The new skins cover most of the major characters in the game, plus some previously unnamed marshals. I'm running around as Reyes at the moment.

Haven't tried Stronghold mode or the horse cart racing yet.

Anyone else playing the new DLC?

I have both DLC packs that came out the past couple months. Liars & Cheats is a lot better than the 1st pack they came out with.

If your into trophy hunting. The 2 trophies related to the horse races are easy to get with the help of just 1 on other player. Same goes for the 2 trophies related to the Liar's Dice game.

I've played multi player so much this past month that I easily leveled up from level 17 to level 41. But yes also double XP weekend helped big time back when R* released the Liars & Cheats DLC :D . Don't be surprised if R* does another double XP weekend around the same time when they release the "Undead Nightmare" DLC pack later this month.

As for AVS members who still play online. I know dogdoctor has sold his copy of RDR. Ravenous112 does not seem to interested in playing online anymore. If you or anyone on here wants to play I'll be online playing. Shoot me a add friend request and say your from AVS.

I wrapped up Undead Nightmare over the weekend.

The wackiness of the narrative is pretty well handled overall. It's nice to see that the game never takes itself too seriously too. If you like RDR then you've got to pick this up.

For me, the highlights are participating in the liberation of towns (a process of distributing some ammo to the survivors and then killing off the zombies) and finding all 4 horses of apocalypse. I first horse I found was Famine, who has unlimited Stamina and has this green cloud that chases him. Then I found War who's surrounded by flames and can burn zombies that touch him. Then I found Pestilence who, confusingly, is surrounded by a swarm of locust who do nothing, and then finally Death. If you haven't found the 4th and final horse, Death, you're rewarded with him once you complete the main storyline. Death is awesome because he's really fast (doesnt lose speed when running off the dirt roads) and explodes any zombies that touch him.

Oh and there is one really awesome thing that happens at the end, in regards to the narrative, that you just have to see. I refuse to spoil this too.

It gets better. Then it gets way worse and more boring.

It's GTA4 with horses. The scenery is nice, but the missions are repetitive, long, and there's lots of open boring world to explore. Rockstar also makes you play the game 3 more hours then need be to complete it, dragging the ending out for no reason.

I loved the story and most of the missions. If I had to nit pick anything about this awesome game, it would be that I spent a little too much time south of the border in Mexico.

Wouldn't have minded that even if I could have spent more time with a more developed Landon Ricketts storyline. That guy was awesome.

I got this game when it first game out, and after about 12 hours or so of play, it has been gathering dust. After reading all the "Game of the Year" awards on various sites, and seeing how successful this game was in the awards, I dug it back out last week and I have been playing hour upon hour.

I know this game has been out for awhile, but I got it last month and just finished the story portion of the single player.

Here's my spoiler filled thoughts on the ending:

First of all, I really thought that the game would have ended after I Dutch died and then I had to go visit Abigail at the Beecher's Hope. I was sure that a cut scene there would be the last part of the story mission.

The missions with Abigail, Uncle and Jack were a big change of pace from the regular part of the game prior to this. I thought they were fairly dull, but they did provide some insight to Jack, the relationship with Uncle as well as Abigail.

I just wasn't sure where things were going to go after that, until that last big shootout with the army. I thought this part didn't make sense because Marston fulfilled his end of the deal and delivered his old gang to the feds, so why were they coming after him now.

I thought Marston's dead was pretty brutal and I kept feeling like if I only had taken Moonshine before I could have taken out all those guys. Why didn't he take cover and take out some of the guys instead of just walking right into them?

I was really sad after he got shot and the cemetery scene with his grave and then Abigail's was also pretty sad. The transition to Jack as the new outlaw/bounty hunter Marston was interesting, but just wasn't the same as having John as the playable character. It was also sad to see Jack grow up to be exactly what John and Abigail didn't want him to be.

All in all, I really liked the game, but I felt that it should have ended with a reunion with Abigail and Jack. I didn't care for the actual ending and epilogue missions.

Really?? I got to Mexico and stopped playing. In general, I don't like open world games, but stellar reviews keep sucking me in. The only sandbox games I've ever finished are inFamous and AC2. Although, the combat in RDR is an improvement over GTA4, I still find it pretty mediocre compared to other games. Horseback riding was fun -- for the first hour.

I'll have to give it another try.

I know this game has been out for awhile, but I got it last month and just finished the story portion of the single player.

Here's my spoiler filled thoughts on the ending:

I just wasn't sure where things were going to go after that, until that last big shootout with the army. I thought this part didn't make sense because Marston fulfilled his end of the deal and delivered his old gang to the feds, so why were they coming after him now.

I recently finished it, too. My thoughts on the ending:

I thought it made perfect sense. Instead of having to track down Williamson and Escuella and Dutch themselves, the feds got Marston to do it for them. Then all they had to do was get rid of Marston. It was clear that Agent Ross wasn't an honorable guy; he'd do whatever was needed to accomplish his goals, and that included making promises he had no intention of keeping.

More than that, the ending was thematically appropriate for the game. Remember the quote in the trailer: "People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven." Marston can't escape his past. He was a criminal, and the feds aren't willing to let that go.

The final mission with Jack reinforces this theme. Jack can't forgive either, and so violence begets violence.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but:

I didn't think Agent Ross was a bad guy until he came after Marston. Sure he was using Marston to get these guys, but I thought their deal was legit after he delivered on all the former gang members and then Ross let Marston go home to his unharmed wife and son. I also wasn't sure why they had all those farming type dull missions with Jack, Uncle and Abigail.

I didn't know about the quote in the trailer, but I guess that makes sense if that was their theme. It was just so sad to see John Marston get killed after playing the entire game with him. It was like watching someone I know get killed sort of. Jack just isn't the same.

What were your thoughts on the "I Know You" stranger?

It's been confirmed already by R* in several interviews that Undead Nightmare was the last DLC for the game. Which is good because they are getting ready for L.A. Noire which is due out soon in either March or April. Hopefully they get Max Payne 3 released this fall, E3 this year hopefully they reveal more info on Agent and they finally annouce GTA V.

Also I heard R* got rid of and fired most of the staff from R* San Diego who made RDR.

If you're on Moonshine, how many targets can you paint in one dead eye session?

Eennnhhh.. Not everything is for everybody. If everybody liked the same thing, there'd only be one game. :)

Oh, I know that. It's just that you mentioned that the game really picks up after the 12 hr mark. I was thinking that maybe I didn't give the game a fair shake (not sure how much time I've put into it) and just decided to give my 2 cents so far.

It slowed down around the 7-8 hour mark for me. Too much of the same.

Funny how Rockstar dissolved the development studio. I realize they just optimized GTA4's engine and created assets (much less work), But I still think the game was exponentially better then GTA4. Even if they were problematic, they made a better game.

I think the farming missions were to make you think the danger had passed; you get lulled into a false sense of security.

And sure, it was definitely sad to see Marston get killed. I think it was a gutsy move for a game; it would have been easy to let him live and set up the possibility for sequels. But RDR was a game about the end of the old west, the end of men like John Marston. His death was fitting.

As for the "I Know You" stranger mission, I liked it. I took the stranger to be a manifestation of Marston's guilty conscience; despite all that he's done to become a better man, Marston can't forget the crimes he's committed.

In case you're curious, some of the dialogue from the missions can be found here (http://reddead.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Dialogues). The lines "People don't forget. Nothing gets forgiven." appear in the "Women and Cattle" mission, in Marston's conversation with Bonnie MacFarlane.

Oh okay, yeah - gotcha. Yeah, that's how is was for me. I'm really enjoying it now. Looking forward to this weekend when I can get in several hours worth. Hit me up on PSN if you want and we can try some multimplayer (Chairman7w)

Ted, if the I Know You guy was his guilty conscience, how was he able to tell John to keep the guy from cheating on his wife, help out the nun and so forth? There's no way John's conscience would have known that. Also, at one point, John says to him, "Damn you!" and he responds by saying "Many have!".

Thanks for the invite, but I actually have it for the 360. Generally, I usually only buy exclusives and multiplat single player-only games on the 360 (I refuse to pay for online play), but I broke my rule with this game. I figured that I only had time for one or two online games anyways and it's supposed to look and run a bit better on the 360. I kind of regret it though... not being able to even sample multiplayer bothers me more than I thought it would.

Yeah some say that he was, but the missions he sent John all were all good natured. Definitely not something the devil would do.

So after I finished the game, I went back to my earlier save which was 3 missions out from the end in Beecher's hope. I'm trying to finish other parts of the game before I actually do the last couple of story missions. To my surprise, i cannot change outfits. I'm stuck in the farming clothes thing. Any idea if there's a way around this w/o actually finishing the last mission?

that's dumb. rdr looked and ran smoother while having a much smaller install than gta 4. so they obviously know what they're doing. i think the draw distance in rdr was superior to gta 4 as well.

The draw distance was one of the coolest aspects of RDR, in my opinion.

It really sold the "feel" of the game to come over a ridge in Tall Trees and be able to see all the way to the other side of Mexico.

This is my favorite single-player PS3 game so far (and by far).
