Help me decide on stain color?

Am nearing the completion phase of our HT. I will have a substantial amount of pine woodwork. What is known; We are utilizing "claret" (burgundy colored) drapes to flank our screen. We will also be using a matching burgundy color GOM fabric. A portion of the walls will be painted some shade of brown, or rust color.

Below are 2 test samples of the stain (tested these on the inside of 2 closet doors). The fabric in the center is a drapery panel we will be using.

Please let me know your opinion; the left color or right color:

The stain on the left is called Georgian Cherry, and the one on the right is called Brown Mahogony

Thanks in Advance!

Right. I would be concerned of the room having too much of a red overtone if you use the other one.

Left, but I would try another coat to make it darker/richer. The one on right looks too yellow.

I like the left side. What is that door made of and how did you stain? Too bad you weren't local cause I'd hire you to finish my trimwork. GC is dragging his feet big time. Guess he doesn't want that final paycheck.

Left and I agree with Big about trying another coat to make it darker.

Queen,

Thanks for the input. Doors are 6 panel pine from HD. After sanding with #150 grit, I pre-treated them with wood conditioner, then stained them with a Gel Stain from Rockler's wood working store (the brand is named "General Finishes").

I will probably go with Big's suggestion to go with a 2nd coat of stain to darken it further.

The top coat was a satin Polyurethane (oil-based)

I like the left...good idea using wood conditioner, especially on soft wood like pine.

Thank You All > for helping me decide.

Overwhelming opinion is the one on the left. Therefore I'll be going in this direction but with a 2nd coat of stain to take it a shade darker.

P.S> (The wife is now telling me "I told you so !" - go with the Cherry)

Thanks Again!
