I have an sa8300hdc dvr. I'll be hooking up a panny dvd recorder to copy content using the "Copy to VCR" function. Is there a way to que up multiple program files so you don't have to reset up the recording after each program?
Also, I'm assuming you need dvd-rw media if you want to record more than one show or more than one recording session. Is that true? Newbie needs help!:)

I bet there isn't. (Tivo recently added a 'play all' functionality to folders, but it's not quite the same as the 'save to vcr' functionality.)

On at least some recorders, you can definitely record to DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM win multiple sessions. You simply don't finalize the DVD-R or DVD-RW (DVD-RAM has no concept of finalization) after recording. I presume that many standalone DVD recorders AUTO finalize after a recording.

It's easier to do this with a recorder with a hard drive in it (even though you have a DVR) since you can record multiple items to the DVD recorder's hard drive, edit them if necessary, then burn them to DVD in one session (or multiple).

Thanks mattack.
I'm new to DVD recorders so I'll have to consider that when purchasing.
The recorder with a hard drive is a great idea.
Appreciate the help.

This is yet another example of the increased utility of the DVD recorder with HDD. I use the "play all in folder" capability in my DirecTV DVRs all the time, recording these large time blocks to my EH55s HDD, then using playlists I separate the individual titles. This is much less time-consuming than making each recording separately. I can start a multi-hour block when I leave for work, and it's done when I get home. All that's left is the edit and HS dub.

I used to say that I could not recommend a recorder without a hard drive. Now that ones with HDD are so rare, I don't say that anymore, but the my reasons haven't gone away, or changed, just the product availability. You will thank yourself for getting a recorder with a hard drive, I guarantee it!
