I have a BG808, for whatever reason the red tube has some burning on it, the others are clean. It came that way when I got it.

How hard is it to swap out 1 tube? I am someone who has never done it before, but is good with electronics?
Can it be done while it is mounted on the ceiling?

If 2 is not possible, then I guess I will have to live with it that way because I am not taking it down.

Thanks in advance.

I have done it quite a few times. Assuming your tube comes with the appropriate hardware the physical removal and install is pretty easy I could probably do it now on the ceiling but I would try it that way the first time. Adjusting the electronics is a bit harder and takes more patience but again not exactly rocket science. You should probably get your hands on the Barco service manual (any 808 manual should do) as it outlines the process. Google should turn one up. Basically if you are mechanically inclined and can read a manual it is not too bad.

I think this chassis is the easist for tube removal and replacement. I had never removed a tube before either...but I just removed the tube hardware first by loosening it...yolk, focus, magnetics/electronics etc. Then pulled off the neck board and I was almost done. Then you need to unscrew the tube face from the mounting area and you're done. It was quite simple.

easy as pie, especially if not mounted
