The two KEF 10" Kar 250B subs are car audio speakers I had back in the day. So I know there not home audio speakers but I'd like to put them to use in my living room. I don't remember exactly how much they cost me but they were around 1,000 bucs for the pair. So, I can't just let them sit in the garage.
I'm a newbie when it comes to home theater systems but I purchased a Sony kdl-46xbr4 LCD (after reading post for weeks here) and I'd like to add a nice home theater system. My budget is between $1,000-$1,500 including the receiver. My living room is 13'-6" x 15'-6". The TV is on the 13'-6" side.
As I mentioned earlier I'm hoping to save some money by using my two 10" subs. But the box that they are in doesn't have an amp or anything else. So one of my first question's to you guys is do I need to add an amp and crossover? Or can I get away with having my receiver do the work?
My second question is what 5.0 system would you guys recommend I add and what receiver. I'm leaning towards the HSU HB-1 MK2 Horn Bookshelf Speakers and Center speaker.
As for the receiver I'm leaning towards an Onkyo TX-SR506 or 606.
Here is some data I found online about the KEF subs.
Frequency Range 20Hz-1.5kHz
Recommended Crossover 70-120Hz
Sensitivity 1W/1 meter 91dB
Nominal Impedance 4 ohms
Power Handling 200W
Amplifier Requirements 12W
If you guys know where I can find more data on my subs please let me know.
I know the subs may complicate everything... but I don't mind the extra work.
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can send my way.
