View Full Version : Is it bad this video makes me sad?

Is this bad parenting, I can't tell? There is literally no joy in this kids face.
Slacker George 02-05-09, 07:53 PM He broke 80 guitar controllers?!
Trust me, when you are playing that song, there is no time to smile or 'enjoy' it. It require pure, undivided attention.
That said, the song is super-fun to play. The only hint that he's enjoying it is the way he plays with the whammy on the long notes and the frets during the breaks.
jremy510 02-05-09, 11:54 PM That's crazy. It's also sort of a testament to how retarded GHIII was, since the ridiculous machine-gunning of the controller makes it so obvious that they are adding about 5 times as many notes as are actually in the song.
KingShorty 02-06-09, 12:01 AM Pretty awesome vid. I remember the days when I was able to play that song in my sleep.
TornadoTJ 02-06-09, 12:08 AM Am I seeing things or are there sections where he's holding the strum bar and just hitting the frets, sort of like the way the RB guitar works on the lower fret buttons during solos? Does RB do the same thing?
He's just using hammer-ons.
TornadoTJ 02-06-09, 12:14 AM I know how those work, that's not what I saw - or at least not what I 'thought' I saw. ;)
confidenceman 02-06-09, 01:26 AM **** that game.
**** that song.
I was a huge fan of GH2, but GH3 was just plain stupid, and "Through the Fire and Flames" is the height of its stupidity. Trust me, there's definitely no joy in that kid. That's pure compulsion. Painful. Frustrating. Deadly.
GH3's charting is wack, but that song is still fun as hell to play.
TornadoTJ 02-06-09, 01:58 AM It just reminds me why I like RB so much more.
Now if SingStar would learn from RB in how to chart a vocal...
confidenceman 02-06-09, 02:03 AM GH3's charting is wackAgree

Degenerazn 02-06-09, 04:45 AM Did he even miss a single note? And how was he able to hit some of the notes without strumming?

Hammer-ons.
I think he messed up once. Hard to tell from the video quality.

Agreed. I watch my daughter play it on expert. Shes concentrating pretty hard, You can tell he's enjoying it (like you said) with the whammy bar (allthough it does give you more star power in you whammy on a long star note) and playing the frets during the breaks. That is a tough song to play, and can be fun, can also frustrate the hell out of you...speaking from experience. LOL
bassmonkeee 02-06-09, 08:48 AM Hammer-ons.

I watched the video in HQ at YouTube. I think when he went "Awww, that sucks" was when he went into Star Power and didn't mean to.
He had a 3722 note streak at the end.
I have to say that I'm glad Guitar Hero/Rock Band didn't exist when I was 14. I spent that obsessive compulsive energy/time that only a 14 year old has learning to play bass. Billy Sheehan, Cliff Burton and Steve Harris had the same difficulty factor to my little brain at the time, but I certainly benefited from it.
I'm not saying "That's stupid, learn a real instrument," but I wonder how it would have affected ME personally having an instant gratification music outlet like GH or RB. Although, I think my dad would have beat the snot out of me around controller, oh....3. Nevermind 80.

Have you ever actually listened to DragonForce?
KingShorty 02-06-09, 10:07 AM I wish my dad was as proud of me of my video gaming achievements.
[/sarcasm]
boblinds 02-06-09, 10:12 AM I'm not saying "That's stupid, learn a real instrument,"
I am.
Danny, who plays piano, guitar, drums, saxophone and oboe in real life, said his Guitar Hero prowess made it easier to complete complicated sequences on an actual guitar.
So the learn an real instrument..and thats stupid comments... (not directed at you bassmonkey) I just dont get. It's a game. How many countless hours have people here wasted playing FF. or Oblivion, or any other RPGS? It's a game meant for entertainment. Some people take this stuff WAY too seriously.
Porsche 911 02-06-09, 04:58 PM One would think he'd shred on a real guitar. GH and RB are difficult for me because I play guitar - it's fun none the less, after 20 beers and a few laughs with friends.:D
confidenceman 02-06-09, 05:21 PM GH and RB are difficult for me because I play guitarI've heard many others say this. I don't understand. My friends and I are all long-time guitar players, and we've all done pretty well (if I might say so myself) with the GH and RB games.
I can't say that doing one well has had much effect on doing the other well, but it definitely hasn't hurt.
Yeah, I know plenty of guitarists who have no problems with Rock Band/Guitar Hero. I still remember playing GH1 and one of my friends who played guitar threw the controller to the ground after failing a song on Medium.
"This is ****, it's nothing like a real guitar."
"Uh yeah. It's easier."
bassmonkeee 02-06-09, 06:13 PM Playing guitar is only a detriment for the first hour, or so, the first time you play the game. The same goes with drums.
Most musicians wants to play every single note, which isn't what you do--especially on the lower difficulty levels. But, once you know what's going on, it's not that difficult to separate the two.
The problem is usually that they play guitar and suck at video games in general. :D
imdjenk 02-06-09, 06:24 PM Have you ever actually listened to DragonForce?
I saw Dragon Force play at the OzzFest like two years ago, those guys are amazing. Not exactly my style of music but you can't say that they're not talented. I think all the button presses in GH are justified.
