I've had Dish Network for three months now, at a new house, with their DVR722. Last Friday I began receiving a message "DVR Service Not Available". I could not access stored recordings or record anything new, but it still worked for Live TV.
Their technical support walked me through numerous troubleshooting tips, nothing worked. They said the only solution was to replace it, and were shipping one. Of course I was highly annoyed that it needed replacement after 3 months.
Strange thing is, I stopped getting the error when I checked early the next morning and have not seen it again.
I would be fine with replacing the unit, as my first thought is the hard drive is going bad. But of course the replacement has "refurbished" emblazoned all over the UPS box, so I certainly don't want to replace a new unit with no technical problems with a refurb'ed unit.
My question is - what is the liklihood that the "DVR Service Not Available" was per a hard drive issue, perhaps a bad block or section that I simply haven't recorded to since then, or just a fluke - Dish Network having some technical issue, signal to support DVR not being sent to my dish, etc;
