OK, so I have had this sub for a while. It was a hand me down from a friend due to the humming when ever it is plugged into AC power. The humming noise is there even when the RCA cables are removed, so I have ruled out a ground loop with another device. I have tried it in many different outlets on different circuits and even if different homes. I have sent in the amp to Cerwin Vega for repair and they claim the could not find any issues.

So at ropes end, I am hoping that someone here might have some insight. I am OK at most electonic devices and can do some minor repairs if given instructions on what to do. I am also willing to spend a little money fixing this issue.

I look forward to any advice you have to give.

cheater plug

I appreciate the reply, however if a cheater plug is what I think it is, it will be no help. Is this what is considered a cheater plug?

The sub only has a 2 prong ungrounded plug already. Could that mean that I need to somehow ground the unit?

And I want to say that I understand that this is an older sub and probably is not the quality that most here would prefer, but I already own it and have no means to afford better gear. I can only lust over the professional gear that others have. So I am forced to fix it instead of replacing it.

Hello. I found this SUB-150 on cragslist. I am thinking about buying it but cant find any info about it on the net. Besides the humming issue do you like the sub? Does it have big boomy bass?

Yes. It is a very powerful sub. I have never turned it up to the point of clipping before, but at moderate volumes, it has knocked pictures off of shelves 10 feet away. I have to be careful that I don't disturb my neighbors. My house and their house is only about 20 feet apart. The bass would be easily heard in their house at half volume.

Thats great. I had a cls-12. Is this better? Is the $250 price tag a good deal?

I have no clue about that other unit. I would say that for $250, it better not have the noise issue mine has. If it is in good working order, I would gladly pay $250 for it though.
