So has anyone ever done a dual subwoofer set-up with one sealed sub and another ported? I'm wondering if this gives you the best of both worlds or if it is way too simple of an idea to be true.

I was thinking that if you had a sealed as your main sub (ie, loudest in setting) then you could have the precision of it, but it could be re-enforced with a ported sub for the boomy parts that are (sometimes) necessary.

If buying 2 at the sametime probally best to keep them the same. I like sealed. But ported can sound just as good. But all things being equal =sq,spl ect. I prefer sealed because you will never have port noise. But imo get what sub you can get for the best price.

I was watching "pimp my ride" a couple weeks ago and apparently you can have both in the same box. Yup, the car audio guy was explaining the virtues of both systems and since he he would settle for no less than the best of both worlds he explained that it was possible by placing 4 18" drivers in a sealed box then he proceeded to to install on the front of the box a plexiglass port tuned to 38hz.

Makes me think it then becomes a ported sub if theres a port on a sealed box???? But if your saying it's 4 sealed boxes in another box with a port?/ Really doesn't make sense? But I don't build subs either.

I was passively watching so am not definite on the install but I think the 4 drivers were mounted in one sealed box, the frontside of the box was again sealed with a plexiglass contraption which housed the port tuned to 38hz. I'm thinking all you'd achieve is a huge fart at around 38hz and some van vibrating seismic activity beyond that. It's brilliant, he designed a gigantic fart machine.

Sounds like a band pass config.
