View Full Version : Help with XG 1351
pepehid 02-06-09, 02:52 PM Hi
I´m trying to feed for first time my XG and I have bought a popcorn A100 to use the components output but searching for the cables there is information about my XG (1351) doesn't support this configuration.
Can anyone confirm me if it is possible or not?
I think 1352 can do it but I'm not sure if 1351 can do it too.
Thanks in advance :)
Best regards
MikeEby 02-06-09, 04:33 PM You are correct a 1352 will a 1351 will not. You will need one of these to make it work.

Besides making the signal conversion it also provides a Gamma Boost.

pepehid 02-15-09, 06:13 AM Thank you very much, Mike, to solve my question :)
Finally I see I cannot use the popcorn to feed directly my XG :(
I´m finishing my first adjust of the XG and I know it's not perfect but at least I'll watch my first movie....if I can finish it :D Now I'm really learning how to adjust it doing all the process.
The projector came to me with a RGB-BNC cable and I have connected my notebook to adjust and test.
My wife (who gave me this projector as a present ;) ) wants to adjust it 1080p :D
I know there are some methods to feed it.
-HDMI Moome card with a HTPC/Scaller.
-HDMI Moome card with a 1080p equipment (ps3, Xbox360, popcorn)
-Scaler/HTPC via BNCs
I suppose the best method is the first one but, is it required to feed 1080p? Really the HDMI card and a HTPC/Scaler are very expensive and if I can avoid to buy both...........but if it's required I'll try ;)
I have read about the problems to get 1080p without a Scaler or HTPC to adjust the image and I suppose one of the is required to get 1080p but I don't know if it is required to get 1080o or 720p also.
I have also a convergence question. I'm trying to overlappe the RGB lines. The vertical lines are overlapped with the toe-in method. But in the Curt's documents, to overlappe the horizontal lines I have to use the "raster shift" in the "ref adjust" menu, but in the "ref adjust" menu I only see "raster centering" (I don't know if it is the same or not) and I cannot move only the red lines (blue and green are correct). I have the configuration manual and this menu (raster centering) has no content  When I try in the "raster centering" I move all the lines up or down so I cannot converge the 3 lines and I can't select CTR+R :(
I hope anyone can help me :)
Thanks in advance
Best regards

1. Use VGA->BNC for starters with a HTPC. You have everything you need, just set the resolution to 1080p and there you go. IMO the best choice, also for image quality.
2. You have to enter the service passcode (3151) when asked for a passcode. Then you can use raster centering for individual colors. If you are not asked for a password at the beginning you have to set it up to do so.

Hi Daniel :)
Then, I'm going to use the VGA > BNC. It's cheaper than the HDMI connection.
Now, I'm going to the HTPC forum to see what I need to feed 1080p or 720p my XG.
Finally I could use the raster centering for each color pressing the "static" (or something like that) button in the remote and now I can see the image correctly but I need to restart the first steps because the image is not focused correctly, but well, it's only time to improve the image to watch my first film
Thank you very much for your help :)
Bert Randolph 02-20-09, 01:11 PM 'Static' is not raster centering! Its just for fine tuning.
Go to raster centering as described in my previous post (zero out static before doing that), it will be better for your electronics!
Good luck with your PJ, its capable of a great image! It will just take a lot of time...

I was like a virgin :D working with the convergence. I have readen Curt's documents but it's diferent to see documents than to do it for the first time.
At least I know my 25 hours XG works correctly. Ther image is not focused but now I know it's only time :)
I was checking it with an old notebook and my next test will be with the HTPC (well, now I have to prepare a HTPC for the XG :p ) I could only work at 1024x768 with the notebook and I'm not going to work twice if this is not going to be the defintive resolution of the projector. But this question is going to the HTPC forum ;)
Thank you, Daniel :)

The HTPC forum tends to be very digital don't be afraid to ask the question here nobody here will jump all over you, were a pretty freindly group. :) Many users with XG's like like 1080i@96Hz. What video card are you using in your HTPC.

pepehid 03-01-09, 05:22 AM Hi Mike :)
Really, I have no HTPC right now ;)
I have 2 computers at home.
The first, I suppose is perfect for this purpose, Q6600 + 4Gb RAM + ATI 4850, but this is the server and I'd have to share for both purposes (well, stop the server and watch a film, and when it finishes, restart the server) using both graphic connector for projector and tft.
The second one is a Sempron 3.0Ghz + 768 Mb RAM + ATI X1600. I know it has no power enough to feed the projector, but I don't know if it only needs a new graphic card (the Mobo has a PCI-Express 16x connector and I could buy a new ATI 3870, 4670 or something like that) and maybe more RAM to be only HTPC without any other use.
I have a RGB-BNCs connector, but I don't know if with the ATI, I could use a DVI-I - BNCs connector.
The question are. Can I use the Sempron with new components? if not, can I use the Q6600 sharing the use with the server?
Thanks in advance :)

The Q6600 makes a great HTPC, that's what I'm using. :) Mine has the older ATI 3850 video. Use your VGA to RGB-BNC cable and be done with it. Download PowerStrip then setup a custom resolution using Kai's 1080i96Hz settings.

pepehid 03-01-09, 06:35 PM Hi Mike :)
The VGA to RGB cable is only 2m and I have to let the HTPC about 3 or 4 meters away from the projector. I have seen a DVI-I to RGB (BNCs) cable. Is this cable better and compatible with the ATI and Nec?
Thanks in advance :)

Yes, that cable would be perfect.
pepehid 03-02-09, 03:45 PM Hi :)
I have the Q6600, but, anyone knows if a Semprom 3.0Ghz with a new graphic card (ATI 4670, 4850) can feed 1080i/p for the projector?
I have readen some posts in HTPC forum but I always see information about compensated computers and I don't know if it's necessary more graphic card perfomance than microprocessor or it maybe equilibrated.
I can use the Q6600 but for me it's better to use the Semprom because it can be used only for HTPC and I can place it nearer to the projector than the Q6600.
Thank you very much for you help :)
Best regards
Mark_A_W 03-02-09, 03:51 PM Yeah it will work fine.
It depends what you want to do. I use a Q6600 and an ATi 2600XT and do all video decoding and processing in software.
pepehid 03-15-09, 07:38 PM Hi Mark
Really I was going to feed 1080p my Nec, but with all your comments and all I have found, I think I'll feed 1080i with Mike's configuration. Really I'll try to test 1080p, 1080i and 720p, but maybe 1080i the selected one.
The source will be mkv's (almost all9 and wmv's in 1080 and 720 resolutions.
With this source (mkv), is really possible to use the semprom 3.0+ with the Ati 4850? I really don't know if it is possible to accelerate mkv's via hardware or it is via software.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Mark_A_W 03-15-09, 08:34 PM MPC HC should play back those MKV files with DXVA. It will if they are straight Bluray rips without re-encoding (compliant streams).
My brother can play a mkv file with 2% CPU on a Nvidia card.
Look on Doom9 for MPC-HC DXVA in the Software Players section.
