I now think I've narrowed my decision down between these 2 subs but I'm not real sure what the differences are in them. I know the EX is a tad bigger and it looks like it can go down to 16hz compared to 18hz from the plus. I'm not sure that a difference of 2 hz is worth another $80. Is there anything else I should be aware of with these subs?

The EX will give a bit more sound volume too. I just hooked my Ex's up last night. First, I played with one and while it was good, I went through a few movie scenes and was happy I at least went with the bigger unit (EX). Now, I thought I didn't play my movies very loud, but now that I've got cleaner bass it doesn't get boomy. It was the boominess that typically prompted my wife to have me turn it down. I ended turning up the good scenes a fair bit more and never got "the look" from my wife. The mains were definitely louder than we normally watched and she was content (along with her parents).
On the other hand, my brother has an Outlaw Compact and it's very nice in his setup. Never seeming to lack. That's really all he has room for in his decor.
So, long story short, if you've got the room - the EX will go deeper and ~3dB louder. But it's a fair bit bigger box. Now the Plus will still fight hard not let you down, but it really depends on your listening habbits. Dual Pluses will about equal the output of one EX (you don't gain a whole lot from duals other than more even response across the room's seating positions).
This is mostly stuff I garnered off these forums and others, along with chatting with sales people at a number of companies.

I've been wondering something similar to your situation. What about during just casual every night TV watching? I'm I going to worry about things vibrating off of my shelves or waking up my 6 year old after her bed time?

Well I finally pulled the trigger before the sale ended and purchased the LFM-1 Plus. Now begins the wait for it to arrive.

I agonized over a similar decision for the past 4 months. Went back and forth and finally decided to pull the trigger on the Plus. With my listening I doubt I will need more. The sale was a huge factor in pulling the trigger.

I was also in your position this week, trying to decide between the Plus and the EX. In the end I went with the Plus, not that my room couldn't accommodate the increased size of the EX, but that with my room at a nidge over 1200 cubic feet a massive sub like the EX would be overkill. I didn't go with the Compact because I like to think someday we'll move to a house with a larger HT room (a man can dream), plus on paper the Plus and EX look fairly similar, except the EX can play a little bit deeper and fairly louder than the Plus, primarily because it's meant for larger rooms. At least, that's what Outlaw's marketing for the EX is saying to me.
I'm upgrading from an 8" Velodyne that's done a pretty great job for me so far, so I'm interested to hear what difference the Plus can provide. Coming this Thursday!

I ordered a Plus today as well...same hemming and hawing on which one to get...I had an Outlaw LFM-1 (original) and never had a problem with it...the plus should be a step above the original LFM-1...here's to hoping it won't be 45 days til I get it...

Congrats...I've been happy all weekend. Just tweaking and finally got REW up and going to see what I'm missing (room dips) and what adjustments might be needed. Just a few quick sweeps a I know I'm getting "flat" response down to ~15Hz. LOve the physical feel of the pressure on ultra low movie tracks!
