Ok, time for subwoofer upgrade. My system is:

Onkyo TX-SR876
RTiA3 (fronts)
CSiA4 (center)
RTiA1 (rears)
FXiA4 (rears back)
Tannoy TS12 Subwoofer
Velodyne SMS-1
PS3, Xbox, Oppo 983 and others stuff…
Samsung LN46A650 and Sony VPL-VW40

Music: 60%
Movies and TV: 40%

The question is: One SVS PB13-Ultra or Two HSU VTF-3 MK3?

My room is 3250 cubit feet (19x19x9). Pictures included:

FRONT SIDE:

REAR SIDE:

LEFT SIDE:

RIGHT SIDE:

Now the Tannoy TS12 is in the LEFT SIDE. I think to buy a pair of HSU VTF-3 MK3, one for each front corner or one PB13-Ultra in the LEFT FRONT CORNER. Any options are controlled whit the Velodyne SMS-1. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

That's a big room. If you don't plan on adding another PB13 down the road, I'd go with 2 subs.

It depends on what you need to accomplish. For possibly deeper FR (depending on tuning), the SVS should be your choice. Since you are mostly music, this may not be a deciding factor. If you want higher volume or have room issues (the SMS should tell you this), then the dual HSUs should be your choice. At this price range, you should also consider the HSU ULS or Rythmik 15.

With that large seating area all along the walls and even in corners, duals, especially with music, will likely fit your bill best. It'll not necessarily go as loud as the 13Ultra, but should be very musical and still go quite deep. I used to run a single 12" Paradigm and I got it sounding relatively good for my main seating position, but sitting along the walls and especially when I walked into a corner, it got very boomy. So, now with duals, I'm working out evening out the bass all around. I just started last night and so far I'm quite happy with the consistency of the response around the room.

Now, of course if you don't go with the 13 Ultra, you may wonder what you're missing...I'm trying not to play that game.

You should also note that the MK3 is not as musical as the PB13.

I suggest either the PB13 or dual Rythmic F15. Either choice will do the job very well.

Yes, the dual Rhythmic F15 is a good option, but I prefer dual Rhythmic D15 SE, is more elegant and down-firing design.

How is the bass response of the D15 SE in action movies?

I have a corner loaded D-15 in 2800 cubic feet (sealed room). It is an extremely capable action movie sub even in it's lowest extension mode. It has several high-pass filters that can be enabled for even higher SPL listening (by sacrificing the lowest frequencies).

I disagree. It may be true at higher output levels, but certainly not at "normal" music levels IMO.

Were you able to compare these in the same room? I seem to remember you hosted some kind of subwoofer shootout?

Nope...not in the same room at the same time. The most recent time I compared subs with a couple othere was the Rythmik, F112, and ULS-15.

Will your wife let you ceiling mount a SVS Ultra in that rear corner? Looks like the best spot in the room if you go with a single! :D

Definitely I like the dual D15SE option, one for each front corner. Maybe the next week I put the order in Ascend Acoustic. The PB13-U is a good subwoofer, but is enormous and heavy. The D15SE is more stylish and the look is like a coffee table and I need two coffee tables for my room (the coffee tables for my wife, the two subs for me) :D
