Hello,

I have Time warner cable high speed internet and standard cable. I recently upgraded to a Samsung HDTV. With this TV it is more apperant how bad the picture quality on standard cable.
It is possible due to the current cabling in/and around the house.
I would need some help or direction to improve signaland pic quality.

The cabling layout as follows.
From TW cable box high speed internet and cableTV split on a 2 way splitter (installed by TW cable.)
The cable TV side of the feed goes into a 4 way signal amp (10db?) the cable spreads to 4 TVs in the house about 50 -60 feet each from the amp. There is only one HD TV.
standard cable channels look horrible on the HD TV; time Warners 4 or 5 HD channels on the other hand look awesome. I also pick up a few digital channels with the new set they look OK.
Some of the cable connectors were done by me. (may not be the best job)

My question: Can I improve signal strength /pic quality by buying better cable end-connectors (compression type along with the proper crimp tool ) adding a signal amplifier ? Eliminating drum connectors?
My new HDTV shows signal strength at about 50%.

thanks

If the HD channels come in awesome, then it's unlikely boosting the signal will improve the standard def channels.

It just comes down to the fact that standard def, at 480i, gets blown up to 720p/1080i or 1080p on an HDTV, and the end result is that it looks like crap. Boosting the signal won't do anything to improve that.

How is the picture quality on the standard definition sets?

Thanks,
Most channels look good on a standard def TV, few channels have a bit snowy appearance and couple channels have noise in a form of horizontal lines (channel 7 TV guide channel) other look OK.

I would consider replacing the cable connectors that you did. It may or may not help.

What is the difference between the blue and black compression connectors?
