DICE has recently announced that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 coming to the PS3, Xbox360 and PC.

Also announced by DICE is the upcoming title Battlefield 1943.

After the announcement of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 during their quarterly financial conference call, Electronic Arts and DICE have come back with the news that the Battlefield series will be blowing up digital distribution channels even sooner. Battlefield 1943 is being developed with the same Frostbite engine that powers Bad Company 2, but it will be available to download on the PC, PlayStation Netowrk and Xbox Live Arcade this Summer.

The game will be a multiplayer shooter featuring three classic World War II locations: Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. The game will offer 24-player support online as players engage in "ruthless aerial dog fights and intense trench combat."

"Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we’re eager to get into players hands," said Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise, DICE.

I'm a huge BF fan, both on PC and console. I really like BF:BC but knew there were things it lacked from BF games. Seems these won't disappoint

Even though it didn't have airplanes, the console versions of BF2 are still the high point of the series to me. Bridge Too Far was just a brilliant map that I could play over and over and never get tired of. My buddies and I played the map exclusively, for the most part.

If the tank was at an angle and the turret was pointed just the right way, when you exited the tank you'd get rocketed up about two times higher than the tallest building. We'd do that, deploy our parachutes, and snipe from the skies! The best part was once I sniped a helicopter pilot from above, then dropped down and stole his ride. Too much fun. Helicopters suck in Bad Company, it's such a letdown.

I'd almost buy a 360 just to get a hi-def version of that game.

42' was one of the greatest arcade WWII shooters of all times. Gonna be fun to jump in a battleship and shell the enemy spawns again :)

Well, I'm excited. It's going to be a PSN/XBLive game anyways, so nothing too over the top. It’s also going to be competing with Warhawk, which is the only game with this style of online arcade play so far.

1942 was so much fun back in the day. Updating it and offering it at a PSN price is great news.

This is a PSN remake of BF1:1942 (now called 1943). It's a remake of the first game with the newest BF engine.

I can't see that at work, but as long as they make this game a little more serious and get rid of the stupid humor, they should have a hit on their hands. The first trailer looked like they were going in that direction. The destructable environments are great.

I really enjoy the original BFBC online (other then the lag), but the single player left something to be desired.

The destructible environments they show in this video are incredible. Shooting at a wooden fence and watching it splinter off in every direction. .. The frostbite 2 engine is sick

I'm glad they are improving and expanding the destruction! Game looks awesome. Also, did I hear him say motorcycles? I'm pumped.

And they aren't going to fix the voice chat guys, it's Sony's fault.

Probably won't have to worry about the crummy voice chat, if sony follows through with the "3.1 cross title chat" update by the end of october. That means they should have plenty of time to optimize it by the time BC2 even comes out.

All I have to say about that is WOW! Its probably PC footage, but if the ps3 looks even half as good as that... the game will be amazing! Destruction 2.0 is looking great!

Yeah, March 2nd. It was to come out this year but they pushed it back, which I think is a good thing considering the release of MW2 is imminent.

The Limited Edition announcement raised some questions and created some discussion across the interwebs so here is a short FAQ to help answer questions we've seen by the community:

Limited Edition FAQ
Do I have to pay extra for the Limited Edition? No, it's the same price as the Standard Edition, just limited in quantity.

Do I have to reserve / pre-order to get the Limited Edition? No, but that's the safest way to ensure you get one since there will be a limited supply.

Can I get the unlocks featured in the Limited Edition if I miss out and can only get the Standard Edition? Yes, won't have the same day 1 advantage. You'll have to play through game and get the unlocks the standard way.

Where can I get the Limited Edition? We intend to sell it at as many retailers as possible, but it depends on where you live and how much your retailer wants to stock up. Once they're sold out, only the Standard Edition will be available.

Why don't I see the Limited Edition showing up at my favorite online retailer? It's up in some place like EA.com and will start to appear everywhere else. This is a busy time of the year and retailers are working hard to get this in place and it will be available both online and in-store.

Is the Limited Edition available on all three platforms? Yes: PC, PS3 and X360.

I’m Gordon Van Dyke and I’m the Associate Producer for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 here at EA’s DICE studio in Stockholm.

Today we’re excited to announce that our forthcoming multiplayer beta is coming exclusively to PS3, so you’ll have a chance to experience all the action, destruction and vehicular warfare ahead of our full release in March 2010.

Starting on November 19, the beta will feature the huge ‘Arica Harbour’ map where up to 24 players compete to secure valuable crates in the ‘Rush’ game mode as the action moves across a variety of different locations. From an initial vehicle assault on a military outpost the war winds through streets of a deserted town to an intense final fire-fight in an industrial harbour.

Looks like it's more polished then 43', which was a lot of fun for being a tech demo.

My only worry is VC is still fuxored, but if the ND rumor is true we'll hopefully have native XVC on the PS3 by then and won't have to worry about DICE inability to code VC.

It's brutal... I guess that's what I get for living downtown. Apparently the node I am on is at 100% capacity between 5pm and 11pm. My speeds can drop to like 500kb at times. It's "supposed" to be fixed soon. I have the direct line to the field supervisor now so I keep calling him. That only took about 5 tech visits before they realized the node was at capacity.

LOL so many people put the blinders on when it comes to COD that its rather funny. Wow a 4 hour SP campaign then the servers are down all day yesterday for MP and the pArty system is broken. Yup same as MW1 LOL

I hated COD4 ever since I rented the game from gamefly a long time ago. 5 hour really awful campaign, and the cheeziest multiplayer ever, it was like an arcade shooter whoppie! AND They charged for map packs which IMO is frickin lame. But whatever everyone seems to like this game for its autoaim noobness.

Oh that and this 50 year old dude I know is really good at the multiplayer. That means the game is pure cheeze crap that takes no skill. He was throwing grenades in the air and using a rocket launcher to get mad kills.

Also I hate kill cams, they are for noobs.

I paid $49 for COD MW2 from Amazon so I could get the $20 credit toward another game. I sold that fail game that is MW2 and have Bad Company 2 pre-ordered for $35.

The only thing funny about that outcome is that they have Addai running for over 100 yards. Other than that, I'm not going to get on my high horse and predict victory even though we've had the Patriots' number in the last few seasons because when both the Colts and Patriots were undefeated going into their match-up, the Patriots came out on top (albeit not by much).

I did play 1943 for a short time, but having only three maps gets old pretty quick. I played Battlefield for a long time though (not as long as Zulu, so maybe a very short period compared to the Z-Team). I don't think I ever went up against all of you in 1943, actually.

But yeah, you guys laid waste to pretty much anything in Bad Company. Didn't help that I never had anyone in my squad worth a damn on my side, so it was always basically just me against the four of you. It was still fun though, and I relished every kill I got.

So yes, I can't wait for BC2.

It won't be ready until Sony gives the go-ahead. Even then, I'd suggest waiting a bit because the servers are going to get hammered. Remember, Sony never learns when it comes to optimizing their servers for things like this.

I think the people on the leaderboards are from Europe. Their servers went live earlier in the day. If you look at the ticker on the title screen, there's a message saying that Dice is still working on the environment. Also, we still have to download a patch before starting. My in-store EB voucher says that the beta will begin at 11:00PM PST, but Dice's twitter page will let us know when things are set to go.

Looks impressive, much better than the original. Hope to get some time with it this weekend.

Oh my god. This game is pure awesome. It feels like they took the weapon handling of Killzone 2 and mashed it into Modern Warfare then placed it all in a Battlefield gameplay setting. Every kill is just so damn satisfying, every point successfully taken (In other words blowed the eff up) feels like a big step towards the completion of a daunting overall task, every point defended feels exactly the same. It's just pure awesome taking out two enemies at a control point and disarming the bomb they set just before it goes off, or doing the exact same thing only to arm said bomb and then attempt to defend that point until it goes off. Oh and anyone who doesn't get a kick out of piloting a UAV around and calling in missile strikes clearly just doesn't like video games.

I haven't picked up Modern Warfare 2 yet and in all honesty I seriously doubt I will now. I'm going to spend until the end of January catching up on my backlog of single player excursions and scratching my multiplayer itch with Uncharted 2 and this Beta, as long as it lasts, and then letting this consume my life.

controls are way different from BFBC1 so don't expect to go in kickin ass right away, sensitivity needs to be immedeatly turned up and finding out how to use your secondary weapon was a real treat :) after one game its pretty cool. killcam is lame but whatever

Wow... this beta is just phenomenal. I have no doubts that the final game will be the best MP FPS available come March. Though I found the game quite difficult and chaotic compared to the original, the improvements are rather astounding. The graphics are top notch and surprisingly, I experienced very little lag. I only managed to play one round of offence and defense, but I think the mics actually worked throughout. Kudos to Dice. Even though the beta consists of only one map, it's so expansive and well laid out, I doubt I will get bored anytime soon.

Oh and the bullet drop for snipers is really tough to deal with at first, but I think its a nice addition

Games awesome. Wow, the environments are just beautiful. All the debris, abandoned vehicles, etc. Looks like a real war zone.

I love the added gore. One guy was on a turret gun and I shot him in the head, POP, no more head. :) Knifing is completely badass now. I shanked a guy in the head and you actually see the blade go into his skull and blood squirt out.

I love the animations when you shoot guys in the shoulders and such. The little blood squirts are a really nice touch.

Tanks now show damage, if Im not mistaken. I hit one with an RPG and it appeared to get dented/f***ed up where I hit it. Didnt get a good look since I wasnt really standing around to marvel at it.

Communication seemed to work fine. I was in a squad of three for awhile and had no problems like in bc1.

March now seems SOOOOOOOO far away

Just finished playing a little for about 45 minutes or so. I gotta say the graphics are top notch. Ran around infantry for a while till I decided to cap some domes as a sniper. One guy, and this was funny, ran right past me as I was camped out , couldn't believe it. He practically stepped on me on his way by so because he stepped on me I put one in his back. lol.

I'm going to have to say that this may very well beat out MW2. I wish Operation Flashpoint had these graphics with their gameplay. Well some of their gameplay.

Some games when you snipe you feel you're sniping from across a football field, in this game it feels like you're sniping from another area code. And to be honest if it weren't for the graphics they couldn't be able to pull it off.

4+ hours of play and wow. This is phenomenal.

Graphics are amazing, and smooth. The game is chaotic at times (in a good way) and take a strategic attack to the detonation sites. Love the blood splatter. Overall I think it was a major improvement over the first game. I can't wait for march.


Negatives:
1. accuracy of UMP like gun seems a bit of a stretch. 3 shots at 50 yards and down you go. Thinking you got sniped, but no.
2. UAVs - where the heck are the points to initiate them from. They don't appear marked on any map. Is it a perk? Attack only? WTF....after 4 hours and 2 people still couldn't find them we thought we must be blind.
3. detonation sites: a little cramped to get into and almost a fish in a barrel. Also once in some areas, it can be a little glitchy to get out.

Overall I can see Zulu having a field day with this once we know the ropes. It is going to be a fun ride.

Oh! And 4 hours later without a single mic drop with 2 to 4 people squads (never broken up either) it was simply a treat to play.

when you shoot people, they actually die in this one. this may be a better mp experience than MW2! thought i would never say that but the game is pure awesomeness.

controls are way different from BFBC1 so don't expect to go in kickin ass right away, sensitivity needs to be immedeatly turned up and finding out how to use your secondary weapon was a real treat :) after one game its pretty cool. killcam is lame but whatever

I only played one game but was very impressed. I agree on the sensitivity, but guessing that option must be in the menu somewhere (didn't have time to explore last night).

I liked the Killcam. It doesn't give the position away, but lets you know who or what got you, along with how healthy they were (which is nice to see if you had got that one extra shot in, he would have been dead).

This honestly is going to be the GOTY !

This is so fun. I was able to go 49-24 in my first full game. took forever but we took all the points. I had only time for this one game, but leveled up to 8 .
The weapon upgrade system is great.

Vehicles are really fun and real.

Graphics- best shooter ever
Play- like said. realistic, frantic(but not out of control) the enviroment and vehicle damage is great. The drop in bullets over distance seems accurate. And its just darn fun.

Had some fun last night and am looking forward to more time with it this weekend. For a beta, it's awesome and I can absolutely see the potential for greatness here. The environments are incredible even now.. I cant wait to see what theyre like in 5 months! It still has a ways to go and plenty of things to iron\smooth out, but again.. the potential here is undeniable. I truly hope EA\Dice stays on the ball and delivers the best of the best to all of us in March.

As for my 1st impressions:

Well, I'm pretty sure even those videos touted as the PS3 version earlier were in fact the PC version, as the BETA looks much less purdy IMO. Could be an old Beta, but who knows.

Felt exactly like 1943 with newer guns. Not sure If I like that, since 43' just felt weird and snappy to me. Something was off about the movement, but maybe I just need to find a good setting for the sliders. 43’ was good for a $15 pickup game, but a $60 game?...

There's tons of upgrades, and XP system, ect; but my XP wasn't saving at all last night so no idea how to rank up and unlock better customizations yet. No idea if VC is fixed as I didn’t try and was playing with Riff Raft.

Looking forward to putting more time into it before I make any judgments.

Maybe that was my issue. I was finding it hard to pick out enemies from the surroundings, especially from afar.

its not refined yet .I think the graphics up close are great. Have you been killed up close. The kill cam afterwards shows some great details.

This si definatley a Beta, and an early beta. But already very smooth. Yes the graphics and rendering arent there yet, but hey this is the smoothest beta launch i have taken part of...

No screen tearing, and no grain filter means that the graphics are much improved. And it really shows from what I saw last night. I mean, it looks and handles like a PC game... its quite incredible. I didn't get to see much destruction but it looked pretty amazing from what I could see. I think even metal containers could be destroyed unlike the first one

I only played it for about 15 minutes last night, I found myself getting frustrated at the controls, mostly because I've been playing nothing but Socom lately.

I was also getting frustrated at the fact that my direct sniper rifle hits weren't killing people, although now I see someone talking about bullet drop, so maybe I wasn't getting the headshots that I thought I was...

Yea, it did play smooth with no frame rate issues, screen tearing, or the like. Detail up close was good.

Hopefully it's an early version of the GFX engine, and they ironed out some AA and better lighting. I think it was the jaggies that were giving me problems, but like I said It was late and I was tired too.

OH and if you guys can believe it, I think the sound is improved over BFBC1, its quite incredible for a compressed beta version

Could be lag..who knows. I'm not that great of an fps player but I don't think I was on the winning end of any up close firefights in the 45 mins I played over lunch. Something felt off. I agree, it needed to be changed so that you didn't need to use a full clip point blank to kill someone at the same time the new video I've seen of someone killing from a far with a few bullets without much effort in aiming is kinda troubling too.

As for me I'd try the ****ing game but I get an "Account has been disabled on users request" message... Thanks EA, Real quality crap.

I would have thought they'd finally add it. I'm not really sure I understand the decision not to include it.

I'm really enjoying it like everyone else, but I noticed screen tearing and a few small glitches.

2 More gripes on my end I forgot:

1) Kill-cam - while nice, it definately gives away your position once you know the maps by heart. I was able to kill many snipers that way last night with a knife in the back. Had to suck for them.

2)Grenades. Wow, does it take a long time for them to detonate, nevermind how long it takes to pull one out and toss. I was hoping for a more twitch toss like the first game. I died a number of times trying to get a grenade out by tapping L2 and never getting one tossed. You really have to hold it down to get one to come out and then watch it burn as the enemy runs a away. They're great in enclosed rooms, but tough to use in the combat in the flat streets.

I haven't tossed a live grenade in a long time but what you describing is about how I remember them. They don't blow up the second they land.

But in respect to the prior game, the grenades felt a little more imminent danger. :p Now I haven't tried to prime them before throwing them (you really don't always have the time to sit there and hold a grenade I've found). While one gripe is what seems like a really long delay in explosion (irrespective of distance thrown (ie. air travel time)) considering how much action is going on around you, but the larger one is the toss itself. You really have to press and almost hold L2 to toss a grendade. I really like how Uncharted 2 did grenades. You can quick pitch a grenade, and roll away and know the explosion is in 3 seconds. Here it feels you labor to toss a grenade without dying, and then it just sits on the ground while you watch all the enemy scatter and then turn to watch it explode like it was firecracker. lol :p Maybe I'm over exaggerating, but it's how it felt last night. So imagine how dumb I felt when I tosses a grenade, missed my mark and wound up standing on my own grenade, floundering to find a way to move (shrubbery, boxes, ect.) only to see myself go up in a poof. :D

LMAO!!! But I understand what you're saying. In respects to other games. I think I threw one or two last night but I don't recall the action. I lost my bluetooth and was going to get one today but I see I can get them on Amazon CONSIDERABLY cheaper than in the stores so I'll order one. Hopefully all of us OS guys can run some games in the demo. Anyone know if Plantronics are any good these days? I recall back in the days I believe they weren't that great (i.e. garbage).
