Hi there --

I fiddled with this for about 90 minutes and simply ran out of things to try. I thought I'd post here in case anyone has some ideas.

I am trying to setup my powerbook as a HTPC on my 27" Samsung TXM2756, which is a late-model CRT tv with a component input. I am running from DVI --> VGA --> Audio Authority 9A60 --> component input on tv.

When I tried the Mac Mini, it didn't work, so I figured I needed to fiddle with a utility like DisplayConfigX, which I bought.

I used the standard settings in DisplayConfigX for SDTV, that didn't work, so then I tried NTSC, which also didn't work. I manually entered resolutions 512x368, 640x480, and 720x480. I set the refresh to 60hz, I also tried 50hz. I simply don't know what else to do. I don't have the manual for my television and I can't try it online.

I'm about to use this for an excuse to go get an HDTV with an HDMI input.

Any input would be much appreciated.

I believe the problem is your tv is interlaced, and you are sending a progressive signal, your mac book can't sent a 480i signal, you need a vga to ntsc converter which will give you a svideo @ 480i

DisplayConfigX says it is outputting an interlaced signal (the "interlaced") box is checked.

Well, I think the mac has some ability to do interlaced...the available Apple DVI to S-Video/Composite cable will work without any outboard converter.

Unfortunately, my TV has component but not S-Video inputs. I was hoping to enjoy a component quality input, which seems a noticeable improvement over composite, especially if I'm using a computer.

I ordered a hdmi to component converter from ebay last year.
It works to connect my PS3 to my component only rptv.
Just brainstorming , I use a dvi to hdmi cable to connect my mac mini to the converter , and bingo, I now can watch my mac mini video at 1080i , the maximum resolution provided by this 5 year old rptv! The best is the converter only costs $90, about half what keydigital or audioauthority is charging.
