Seattle, WA (MMD Newswire) February 9, 2009 -- Classic Alaska Charters, Ketchikan Alaska, announces it's company promotional HD DVD has recently been awarded 3 Bronze National Telly awards, was nominated Jan 2008 for 5 Regional Emmy awards, and was recently awarded 2 Regional Emmy awards.

Their website says they have another HD DVD coming out too, stay tuned. Wonder how easy it is to get these?

The announcement came out a little late...2009 rather than 2008....dogsledding the info to the forum was a little slow this voyage! Still...the info is good and I decided to share.
Thanks for the comment....

Rob,

Do you know what model of HD cams SMG Productions used in the filming of your video?

Wow, still winning awards in 2009!That HD DVD title won the 2 Regional Emmy Awards in June of 2008 (http://natas-seattle.org/awards/docs/45thAnnualRecipients.pdf) and won the 3 Bronze National Telly awards for the "The Saltery C" in 2007 (http://www.tellyawards.com/winners/list/?l=Strehle+Media+Group&event=8&category=1&award=B).

I'll check on it for you. I know there were 2 HD camera's one used for underwater footage and small enough to be "bagged". The other was a broadcast camera....
I'll get the specs for ya....
The second video in production SMG used a cinematic (?) camera or format for the helicopter shots of the boat...and a deep water under water housing for the dive footage down to 100+ feet.
I'll get back to ya on the details....
Thanks for asking!

Yea...little late on the announcement...was waiting to see if we won any Oscars too! lol
....no Oscars ...just the Telly's and Regional Emmy's....oh well...it's all good...just the right timing for me! grin

I wrote to Captain Rob to find out how we can order the HD DVD. You just need to fill out the contact us form. Here's Captain Rob's reply:

Thank you for your inquiry!

Please provide your info through the form on the website at:
http://classicalaskacharters.com/contact_us.htm
By providing the info we can better determine what kind of a
trip meets your vacation goals. Thanks...
If you just want to watch the HD DVD.....that's fine too...still
have to provide info for us to work with.

There will be one more step...a few questions after you submit
the form, I'll then send you an invoice for the HD DVD.
It's only $10.00 for the HD DVD and $5.00 USPS Priority Mail.
$15 total.

Thanks for your interest in the HD DVD.....and hopefully Alaska
adventure with us as well!

Rob,

Do you know what model of HD cams SMG Productions used in the filming of your video?
The cameras that were used to shoot the pieces were the Sony F900/3 Cine Alta, and the Sony 730 both are HDCam cameras.

Just to be sure, this is on the HD DVD format, so that it will only play on HD DVD players, is that correct? (As opposed to being filmed in HD but on DVD).

Captain Rob

What is the running time of the video?
Running time of the main feature is 23 minutes. Also on the HD DVD is the "Imagine" trailer which is 9 minutes, Extra's-raw bear footage, underwater footage, raw halibut footage, and a slideshow....another 10+ minutes or so....

Oh so this is NOT an HD DVD disc in the HD DVD format? I assumed it was since this is the HD DVD forum.

Please clarify.

Then unless it is a combo disc, it is a DVD and NOT an HD DVD. This is the HD DVD forum, and HD DVD is a distinct format. I should have made sure before I ordered, because it seemed odd I haven't heard of it before and that a promotional disc would be in the HD DVD format. It also didn't make sense that another promotional HD DVD was coming out, given that HD DVD is a dead format.

woahhhh wait a minute!!! Can I get a refund? I hope you didn't ship it yet. I only wanted it because i thought it was a HD DVD. Noway would I pay $15 for a advertisement regular DVD.

OK Guys...here's the skinny! Based on junglalien's complaint I called the producer of the DVD and here's what he said!
"The program was filmed in HD Cam 1080i so we could have the option of producing Blu Ray...but because of the dominant target audience being regular DVD it was down converted to DVD. If anyone wants to discuss ordering a Blu Ray version have them contact me at: keven@strehlemediagroup.com "
Sorry to all for the mistake...mine it was...and an honest one! Complete refunds will be made to those who actually return the DVD's UNOPENED in the original packaging!!!
Also, I've ordered more of the DVD's and a limited number of Blu Ray disc's of the program....for those actually interested in the content rather than the collectability of the dead format! (now I said it! grin)
My apologies to all....I'm just a low tech guy trying to get the word out about content and made a mistake in calling my DVD that was shot in HD 1080i for Blu Ray, an HD DVD, when it was down converted to DVD for the rest of the regular world!
Again...those who paid for the DVD and want a refund let me know ASAP! Return it unopened and I'll refund all including the postage it cost you!

This one you might! But don't open it...and return ASAP if you want the refund!!!
You may never know! grin
Sorry about the confusion...it was mine!

Yea Bruce....my mistake....see my apology post!
The next "DVD" is going to be in Blu Ray...NOT HD DVD....even though it was shot in HD Cam. Let me know if you want a refund...no problem!

Exactly Bruce....my mistake...it was filmed in HD 1080i and then down converted to DVD. I didn't understand this until I spoke to the producer a few minutes ago to clarify.

I was wondering why all you guys here were so excited about the DVD...it was the "collectible" potential and not actually the content...because I mistakenly referred to it as an HD DVD.

Again....sorry for the disruption to your forum by my innocent mistake!

Headed back to the DVD world with my tail between my legs!

I just finished up refunding "everyone's" money from the forum here for the DVD I mistakenly advertised as an HD DVD! No need to return it...please pass it on to someone who is actually interested in the content!
Thanks!.....and you're all welcome!
The next "DVD" will have a special edition in Blu Ray....same show with more content and the trailer to the next DVD in production "Girls Gone Wilderness!"
....not for you HD DVD guys I know....now!

Yes, you can see how your "HD DVD" disc lit the fire under some of us.
And kudos for admitting your error of understanding.

Now are you sure you can get a Blu-ray version?;)

He could just make a H.264 disc and save some money. If he wants to learn how to do it, let us know.

You are a stand up guy Rob! Got my email with the refund info. Thanks.
We are a bunch of HD nuts here, and some of us have had to deal with people who couldn't deliver, you will NOT be in that group my friend.;)

You never know, you might just get some of us up your way.......do you have a screening room in your boat?:D

This correction is in order....along with My apolgies!

I've corrected as many of the press releases I could get my hands on and e-mails to.
The link here as posted originally leads to the corrected version.

The distraction to your HD forum is noted...and hopefully some will understand and perhaps gain something positive from this....I know I've learned a valuable lesson!

I offer and post this to demonstrate my resolve to correct my mistake....
Thanks for understanding!
