Is the Pronto 9600 worth the extra money over the harmony 1000?
Will they be able to run insteon products? Thanks.

Stay away from the Harmony 1000, read about it here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1105570

I know nothing of the Pronto, just wanted to give you a heads up on the Harmony 1000. Which I believe has been replaced by the Harmony 1100, read about it here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1112372

Hope this helps.

Ahh, I see. Ok, after reading about the 1100 it does sound like the issues have been fixed. How about the 1100 and the pronto or is there another remote out there that is just great? I would like it to also be able to control insteon products.

That I do not know. But I hear that the Pronto is a bit of a challenge to set up. The Harmony One that I own, well actually two, were very easy to set up and use. Took less than an hour to program all of my gear and get the remote up and running.

In regards to your Insteon gear, I believe that is controlled via RF. The Harmony remotes are IR, except for the 890, but I have know idea if it will run your Insteon gear. That would be one for another post.

From what I understand, the 890 is RF Z-wave compatible, so if your Insteon gear is Z-wave then the 890 will work fine. If not then you may be out of luck.

The remote I need is shaped like the harmony 1100. It is for a quad and he will use a pencil to run it. Remotes like the 880 or 890 tip when he pushes the buttons and a shape like the 1100 is just right. Are there any others like this that anyone would recommend before the 1100????
Have they fixed the 1100??

You might also want to consider the URC MX-3000. They've been replaced by the 6000, which means you could probably find one for realatively small money ($300-$400). You'll want to have a CI program it if you're not farmiliar with programing URC's, as the software is tough to learn. In the end, you would have a bulletproof remote. Far better than any Harmony (sorry Harmony owners, but the truth hurts sometimes).

Where would I find a CI around here? I live about 250 miles from any city. I live in a rural area and it makes it tough to do anything like that. It sounds like a great deal but I don't know how to make that work.

There are companies out there that will do the programing off-site. Here's an example:

They'll even help you pick out the right remote to fit your needs. One stop shopping, if you will.

I don't know where to find them for that price but I will keep looking. Most are around the 999 range.
