Hello,

I am getting the Onkyo HT-S9100THX and was wondering if the sub that comes with it, the SKW-960, is better or worse than my Sony SA-WM40.

Both are powered subs

SKW-960:
60Hz, 140w
Volume knob

SA-WM40:
60Hz, 90w(according to specs on the back)
Volume knob
Cut off frequency knob (50HZ-170Hz)
Phase switch (normal-reverse)

Thank you

I have that onkyo system. I can't speak to the sony subwoofer but the onkyo sub is not bad. It's max output is 290 watt. I've done a lot of tweaking to the system and it sounds pretty good. Better with movies than with music. On some scenes, like the canon scene in master and commander the sub hits good enough I get a bit rattle from items on shelfs in my room. I'll have to say though I really like that bass hit and I'm looking to replace that sub with either an epik caliber or an ed a5-350 with the 550 watt amp. I may replace the fronts with some polk tsi500's also but I don't really have the space to do that right now. This was my first real HT system and I like it a lot however I tend to get upgraditus on things like this and want to keep making it better. I think you'll be happy with it. My 2 cents.
