Any thoughts on this sub?

I live in a small apartment, living room is about 10x13.

Found a guy selling a PSW303 for $100 on craigslist...he says the sub is excellent condition. Worth it?

or should I just buy a brand new Velodyne VX-10?

Looking to hear some thoughts...thanks

I'd get the Velo. I've had the Velo for a couple of years and it sounds quite good for its price. Granted, it won't shake your house off its foundation but it sounds pretty decent with music and has some punch for HT in a small room.

I haven't been impressed at all with the Polk subs I've heard and I'll think you'll find that is the resounding sentiment here on AVS. If the guy lives close by and will let you have a listen it would be worth checking it out and hearing it for yourself, though. Maybe you'll like it and think it's worth $100. It's ultimately you who will be listening to it, so if you like what you hear, go for it. Good luck.

ugh, pretty disappointed in this sub. It's very quiet and has very to little kick. I might have to go with an 10 inch driver.

Any recommendations for a 10 inch sub for under $200?

TSC ASW10?
Velodyne VX-10?
Dayton Sub100?

Yeah, I figured you wouldn't be all that excited about it. Polk's subs just aren't much to shout about IMO. Now to be fair, I 'm not sure anything you buy for under $200 will knock your socks off. I hate to do this because I try to be sensitive about peoples' budgets, but would it be possible for you to bump your budget up to about $230? If you can, you can get the Premier Acoustics PA-120. It's said to be quite a capable sub and should be a ton better than the Polk you auditioned today.

If you can't go for that, I can recommend the VX-10 as a decent sub under $200. I don't know how it stacks up against the TSC and Dayton but I was pleased with the VX-10 considering its price. My parents still use it and to this day it can surprise me on occasion. Still, I'd recommend at least looking into the PA-120 unless the extra $30 is completely out of the question. You can buy it on eBay. Search "PA-120" and it should come up. You can buy it from Sound Distributors on eBay.

tSc ASW-10 or Velodyne VX-10 if your budget is less than $200. If you can bump it up to $230, get the PA-120 as lalakersfan34 said. :)

Hello Lakers,

I really appreciate the reply and the recommendations.

The PA-120 looks like an excellent sub and seems very powerful. Unfortunately, it's gigantic and may be a bit overkill in my small NYC apartment. The budget isn't really a concern as much as the possibility of angering my neighbors.

I've heard some positive reviews concerning the Velodyne VX-10 and tSc ASW10. Looks like I need to do a little more research...

Thanks again everyone.

Gotcha. I didn't realize you were in an apartment (missed that in your first post). You posted that you were disappointed with the PSW 303's output and lack of punch so I thought I'd recommend something more powerful :).

Depending on your neighbors, you'll probably need to be very careful with any sub you get in an apartment. One thing for you to consider is that you can always turn down a powerful sub if it's too loud - you can never turn up a less capable sub past its capabilities. The PA-120 might be capable of more output than you can take advantage of in your apartment, but at least you know that you'll probably not be left disappointed with its output capabilities. Another nice thing about the PA-120 compared to the VX-10 and ASW10 is that it can extend a bit deeper. Also, since the PA-120 is a better sub in general, if you move from your apartment to a house it's more likely to satisfy you.

Just some food for thought. Good luck with whatever you decide to get :).
