I'm setting up my theater and I would like to use a mac mini or something similar and hook it up to my Denon 3808 via hdmi (with adapter), which is hooked up to my JVC RS10 via hdmi. I would only really use this to browse the internet for fun on the big screen as opposed to a laptop in the theater. Will it work ok?

Thanks,
Shawn

I don't see any reason why not, I use a mac mini for about the same purpose, just got a great blue tooth logitech keyboard with a touch pad on it, works awesome with the mini. However I also have my mini hooked up to a 2TB drive and store movies on there (hate having DVD's all around and like Netflix), works pretty good for that although I'm still playing with all the Mac HTPC options for software.

I'm sure others with more Mac HTPC experience will chime in, I'm a 20+ year Mac user but never for HTPC...learning a lot on this forum!

And it looks like you're going to end up with an awesome HT! Congrats!

Thanks for the info. Did you have any issues with the display, or was a simple hookup and tweak settings?

it was for me, but I'm going straight to the display with a DVI to HDMI, I have a HDMI splitter on order so I can run it through my AVR (HK 354) and I'm sure I'll have to play with it a bit to get full screen. I am using a mini to optical to the AVR and that works great for streaming playback (local sports radio station with house/outside distribution is all I listen to when the wife's away, when she's home iTunes sounds awesome) We've just started playing with the movies so I'm really not the best judge there since I'm going straight to my display for video but the Mac recognized the display instantly and showed up perfect for me...

No idea, the majority of us do not send video through an AVR and instead connect directly to an HDTV. Only someone who has that model AVR and that model projector can tell you for sure what lies ahead.

Thanks for the info :) I'll guess I'll buy one and try it out.

I can try hooking up direct too, bypassing the denon for video, I've got an extra hdmi run/input to the projector.

you should also explore the HTPC options for Mac's, you might be suprised...I was!

And when you compair a mini to a small PC you end up at about the same price with, what I've found in the Mac community, a lot more support! Check out some of the other Mac user support forums (if you haven't already), this one is great but there's a lot more out there...plus a lot of the software out there is free for us where the PC world has to pay for sub par software...just my opinion...and someone who worked for Microsoft in Redmond...the only PC's in our house are the ones forced on us from work :D

There is also a couple of resolution adjustment apps out there you might want to check out but if you can go straight to your projector it would probably be best...

Enjoy!
