Rookie here so my apologies if this has been asked before

I recently bought a new house with a media room. We installed HDMI wall plates from the TV area to the closet so we could close up all the components in a separate area. TV and TWC box work great when connected directly to each other but if we go through the wall plates we get an error displayed on the screen. This is generated by the TWC box and appears to be some kind of copy protection. Message below:

"Your HDTV does not support HDCP. Please disconnect the HDMI connector and use the YPrPb connection to continue watching TV."

I am hoping we didn't install all this HDMI cable in the wall and now it is useless. Anybody got any ideas here? Can this be fixed?

Sounds like it is something in your {source HDMI--wall plate--HDMI in wall--wall plate--HDMI to TV} signal line. (I assume you have an HDMI cable in the wall, and not cat5/6 and baluns).

If you take off the wall plates at either end and test the cable (add in the wall plates one by one) you should be able to figure out what's causing the problem.

I will give that a try. I actually have a double wall plate and 2 cables. It would seem strange that both would give the same error if it were the cable itself. The fact that it pulls up an error message from Time Warner seems odd too.
