View Full Version : MX-900 and Next Generation Extender?
hemster 02-11-09, 02:32 PM I would like to use a Next Generation Remote Extender with a URC MX-900 remote.
Anyone know if these are compatible?
Is there a specific type of NGRE I need to get? (e.g. frequency etc.)
Thanks,
~hemster
Why would you want to do that? I thought the MX-900 was RF to begin with, and way more powerful to boot.
CCONKLIN1 02-11-09, 03:55 PM the mx900 IS Rf but you still need the optional extender whcih is way more than it should be...
Best,
chris
A mrf-260 can be had for about $85.00. What do you think it should cost?
If you want a cheap RF basestation to use with mx900, any of the IR extenders sold under radio shack, x10, RCA, or Proscan in the last 20 years would work.

Hmm. Interesting. Can you please pm me a link where I can get one for $85?

I understood that it would depend on the frequency that the remote would send and that the extender would respond to. At a minimum, they must match AFAIK.
I'd prefer to pair the remote with a URC extender but they cost too much!
The following URC RF remotes have work great with those IR extenders, the mx-600, mx-350, urc-100, urc-200, urc-300, RF10, RF20, and RF30.
But yes, URC does make version of the mx900 that won't work with those extenders, is your the mx-900i?

Yes, and I understand that mine may operate on a different frequency. I guess I better start saving up for a URC narrow-band RF extender :(
Not all narrow band basestations will work with your mx900i, you will need the mrf-260i that uses the same 433 mhz. Because there are 418 mhz narrow band RF basestations too, which is probably what the $85 version is above.

Correct.....
If you have the MX-900 you will need the MRF 260 ( 418 mhz)
If you have the MX-900i you will need the MRF 260i ( 433 mhz)

Back to your original question, I see no reason why the NGRE won't work with your mx900i.
In fact I have both versons of the NGRE, in 418 & 433 mhz versions. The URC RF remotes will communicate directly with 418 mhz NGRE basestation without the use battery compartment gizmo.
So theres a good chance that your 433 mhz mx900i remote will communicate directly with standard NGRE sold unit, without having to use the battery device.
I don't have a URC RF remote that uses the 433 mhz frequency to test this.

OK, so let me make sure I understand this correctly... the standard NGRE (as purchased on-line) runs at 418 MHz then?

No, the standard NGRE is 433 mhz, like your remote. The 418 version came out later is harder to find. So you want to get the 433 anyways.

I see. I found out that a separate RF transmitter device can be purchased if one wanted 418 MHz. Just replace the standard device with it and you're set.
As you say, I need the 433 version.
Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.
SirDark 03-14-09, 02:56 PM Hi there i want to configure the controller mx-900i but i dont have the required cable!!! can you tell me how the cable is?? i know one side is USB to connect it to the computer.i just want to know what cable should i use....thanks
MikeSRC 03-17-09, 02:08 PM The other end of the cable is a standard mini-B USB connector used with many devices (like digital cameras). You can get one at almost any comsumer electronics store (ie: Best Buy, Radio Shack etc.).
