Samsung Service Menu Question
Hello, I have a Samsung DLP Model HL-S5687W

I would like to go into the svc menu merely to check lamp usage, and reset it when I replace it. I have had no luck finding out how to get into it.

Found a couple things via google, but neither worked, does anybody know how to do this? I have no intention of doing anything else with it, I love the picture and wouldn't dream of messing with anything, just want to check lamp usage, reset if possible when I replace it etc.

Thanks, hope somebody knows a way that works.

With the TV turned *off* press mute, 1, 8, 2 and then power on.

The menu will stay until you turn the TV off again.

Ok, thank you to both of you. I will go turn it off, give it a cool down time, and give it a shot. I appreciate it.

EDIT
Just looked at my notes, and this is one of the sequences I found that didn't seem to work, but will try it again. it must be right and I am doing something wrong.

Do you hold any key down while pressing the others, eg the mute, or just sequence thru them?

Very good. that DID work, I think last time I had read to hold the mute key down while pressing the other keys, which is not the case, just sequence thru them as you said.

It says Lamp Life 65H which I have to figure is an estimate of its time remaining. Last week a tech was here to work on it, and he went into this menu and found some place it said 7589H and told me I was lucky, that 6K to 8K is it. I have a new one arriving tomorrow.

Do you know what that 65H means for Lamp Life, or how he found this figure of accumulated use of 7589 Also how to reset it? Maybe there is a page somewhere that explains these things. THere is a "Lamp CLear" I wonder if that resets it, but still don't know where he got that 7589. Many entries on there, not finding it or anything that sound like it would lead to it.

Thanks for your help.

The 65Hr is the time that the TV's been on since the technician reset it last week... luckily he told you the hours. TV's do not have the ability to calculate "time remaining" on the bulbs. When you get the new bulb is installed, you'll want to go back into the service menu and toggle the "Lamp Clear" and that will reset the lamp hours to zero.

Today that same figure is 4H so that seems doubtful. I don't think he reset it last week either, was no reason to, and I watched him and he just brought up some screen that had that number, and it looked different and was in a different place on the screen than this 65H yesterday, and today is 4H

The 7589 was in the upper left corner, about 4 items from top. This 65H/5H is way down and in a 2nd column as I recall, but definitely far down on the screen, not near the top.

So, beats me. I did not select lamp clear at all, though one has to wonder if I reset it yesterday. But don't know how. I did really nothiing but look at the various things, most of which make no sense to me, so I left it all alone.

A new lamp/housing is arriving today from samsungparts who finally got them in stock.

Strange stuff.

Thanks.
