I am setting up a home theater and found myself a bit stumped on what was the best way to approach it. I have a Panasonic SA-XR57 receiver, a Vizio 47" LCD, Technics SL-1200Mkz Phonograph, Comcast Cable/DVR box, Panasonic PV-D4734S DVD/VHS deck and a Sony ODP-CE545 CDplayer. I would like to be able to punch in my Laptop or add a MediaCenter at some point. All except the Phonograph has Digital Audio. The Receiver has a DVD Recorder HDMI input/output. I was not sure what was the best way to use the HDMI and whether the Comcast DVR box should go into the DVD Recorder and pass through to the Vizio 47" LCD, but then what to do with the DVD Player? The SA-XR57 has a VCR input but its not component - thought I would use it for the phonograph. It would seem that the Vizio has enuf inputs to run things directly to it - but what would give me the optimum performance? I am trying to minimize cables by using all digital audio (optical fiber) and would prefer not to use the VCR input for the Phonograph (yes I still listen to records), but not sure I have a choice if the CD input has optical fiber (digital audio) and the VCR is the only input that does not (same as my phonograph). The cable DVR box has HDMI but my DVD player does not - shouldn't I therefore use the DVR box in the DVD recorder HDMI input and pass it to the HDMI input on the LCD? I appreciate your thoughts.
