View Full Version : Looking for a specific TV stand/console....
I'm starting too think it's a little TOO specific. I've checked racksandstands.com but didn't find exactly what I'm looking for. Anyhow, looking for a stand to put my Pioneer KURO PDP-5020FD on:
I would love the Bell'o PR-15 (www.bello.com/index.php?partition=show_product&prod_id=184&categ_id=46/) but with a 47" width instead.
Basically, I'm looking for a 47" wide (max 47.75") stand with center channel storage and adjustable component shelves for at least 4 components. Preferably "hidden" speaker storage and component storage behind glass (such as the Bell'o) but not necessary. Anyone seen such a thing?
Bad SCR 02-12-09, 04:02 PM I am no expert but, one option is to find a custom furniture builder.
For the hidden speaker, use an "acoustically transparent fabric".

Bad SCR 02-12-09, 10:19 PM I just built my own stand.
Made the frame from wood (with doors and a place for equipment),
Covered it with a fabric,
added granite/tile inlays to the doors (interchangeable),
also added Fans for cooling.
It is nice given, It only costed me $85.
I will post some pics soon.

Bad SCR 02-13-09, 12:55 PM I do need to add Velcro to the Tile inlays.
Did get a little lazy and did not do much with the inside.
Originally planed on putting "privacy mirror glass doors" and putting the electronics inside it, then Could use lighting to show the electronics.
If I had more tools, I could do some very elaborate things.
Not bad given A drill, saw, router, hammer, and stapler.
hey, Here is a small idea, If enuff people sent me $XX
Then I could buy a "Craftsman CompuCarve"
Then they could send me some Wood and the computer file
And I could feed the Wood in and they could pay the Shipping of the wood back.

The upper center section is actually perfect size for DVD cases, but the wife didnt like the idea of having it full of DVDs - thinking friends and family will see the DVDs we have and want to barrow all the time, and likely not get them back.
Anyhow, because the depth of the DVDs is much less than the stand is, the "back" of the DVD section is faux and can be removed to gain access to a hidden compartment which I use to house my surge protector. Maybe one day I will get pics of this as well.
This stand is approx 72" overall - pre-made cabinets that I liked that were around this size started around $800... I built this one for around $150 with all materials

I have been searching these AVS threads for information leading to a site where I would finds plans to build my own home theater entertainment cabinet. After viewing many threads (all false starts), I stumbled upon this one and I must say, you have built a very nice looking entertainment rack, and the photos, though not close ups, suggest you know your way around the workshop. Did you build this rack from plans? If so, can you tell myself and others where we can find plans for our own furniture projects?
Regards,
John

Thanks! I am still learning my way around the work shop. :D Ive been building car audio enclosures and custom work for vehicles for ~10 years. Over the time Ive gotten very familiar with numerous wood working tools, however this was actually my first attempt at building any sort of "furniture" if you will. I really love it, and think it came out better than I was expecting.
Unfortunately (for you guys), I didnt go by any plans. I was initially looking to purchase one, but after 2 things: 1) not being able to find something the size I wanted (ie. >70" long, 24" tall, 20" deep) and 2) finding something nice that I thought was "reasonably" priced - Im sure we have all seen the pricing for some of these that are upwards of $1200...
All I did was searched the sites ... Best Buy, Circuit City (at the time they were still open), and others to find companies to made AV stands... I then went to the manufacturers sites, and found a couple different stands that I liked and basically pulled ideas from a each one, and built it to my measurement needs.
Sorry I cant be of more help. But I will say for 2 days of building (cutting and assembly) and 2 days of staining (2 coats @ 6 hour dry times between coats) and ~$150 later, it was WELL WORTH THE EFFORT.
If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to post here or PM me, and I will do all that I can to help.
I never really found a good place to do one here, so I never did, but I did make a "Showcase" thread on CocoonTech (http://www.cocoontech.com/index.php?showtopic=12367) for anyone who is interested in checking out some of my other work / projects. My current "furniture" project is a cabinet / workbench for my garage. I started work on Monday, and HOPE to get enough done this coming weekend to actually be able to take some pictures and show some progress.
