Hello all,

I have read through many threads about these TV's and I thought I would get opinions. Thanks in advance for all replies and thoughts about my Dilemma.

I currently own the 617w. The 5 year warranty expired about 6 months ago. The 5 year warranty was a great investment. I got two free bulbs and 3 light engines! (It was a loud color wheel all 3 times, but I guess it was easier to change the whole engine?) I am on the 3rd one now and it has been running fine and quiet for about a year now.

My 1st Dilemma is whether or not to sell this one and put the money toward another set?
I realize it is worth anywhere from $400 to $800 on CL. I will just hate it if the color wheel or anything besides a bulb goes bad at this point, because it would not be worth fixing.

My other thoughts is just to gamble and keep it. If it lasts another two years with just a bulb replacement and I have to donate it broken, maybe some 60" choices by then will be just as reasonably priced as my choices today. 2 more years of use would be worth losing $500 in my opinion, especially if this bulb last that long.

So, should I sell it and put the money toward a new TV?

Dilemma 2: Which TV 67" Sammy (I can get it for just under $1800)
or 65" Mits? (I can get for just under $1500).

I have read all the Pro's and cons of both, and I was set on the Samsung until I read about vertical viewing angles were not the best. My current 61" is on a stand that is about 30" in height. I plan on keeping the stand. I sit back about 14 ft from the set. I did not notice any problems with the vertical viewing angle with my 617w.

Will I notice anything with the 67" or the 65" Mits?

Which TV would work better in my current layout?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies and suggestions.

MC

I sold the HLN-617W. I am now in the market. I know, I know read and search the current threads and I will find most of my answers. If anyone would care to reply with their opinions while I am searching, I would really appreciate it.

I took some exact measurements. I sit 12.5' back from the (future) TV. My stand is 28" high.

I have narrowed down to 65" or 73" mits. Diamond or 67' Sammy LED.

Any issues with any of these TV's sitting this high, once again I did not notice any issues with my 61" Sammy bulb DLP.

Thanks
MC

I sold the HLN-617W. How much did you sell the HLN617 for and where did you sell it? I have a 6-1/2 year old HLM507 that is still working great and I would like to sell it but I know the (second) bulb is nearing the end of its useful life. Plus, I have a spare color wheel and ballast for it. So I'm wondering if it will sell for much and where best to try and sell it, knowing that the new owner would soon have to shell out $200 for a new bulb (and get a better PQ with it). If I could sell it I would most likely get a Samsung A750.

I sold it on Craigslist. My bulb was 6 months old with a lot of life. I got $700 for it.

Anymore thoughts anyone?

Anymore thoughts anyone? Thanks. The deciding factor for me would be the presence of rainbows. I saw them on the HLM507. When I view the A650 and A750 Samsungs in stores I see rainbows on the A650 but not the A750. I also see rainbows on the bulb-based Mitsubishis. So the LED-driven A750 would be my choice.

I replaced an HLP-5063 with the HL67A750 last summer. At the time the 5063 was still going strong with about 7500 hrs. on it. Changed the bulb at 7000, even though it didn't need it, but had a spare in the closet and I was giving some thought to selling the set. I didn't; it's still in my bedroom. But if you got $700 for your HLN on CL, I may have to reconsider.

Anyway, I have my A750 on a 20" stand and sit 9' from it. My direct eyeline to the screen looks to be about 3-4" down from dead center. It looks absolutely fantastic. You will be amazed how much a step up it is from bulb to LED.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I am going with the 67" Sammy. Now to decide to buy local or online.

thehighdefinitionstore.com has it for a tad less than 1800 w/ free shipping and a free stand ( Samsung model #TR72B). Seems like a good deal, but there return policy is pretty strict.

AMZN without stand would be about $30 more than above, but apparently white glove delivery and a great return policy and everyone seems to be getting new build dates with Amazon.

My best deal would be less than $1700 through a friend that works for samsung, but I have to wait 3 weeks and they just drop it off at the door. They will not come in. Maybe, if I tip them $20 or so, they would stay around long enough for me to open the box and turn it on?

I have not haggled locally yet. I have best buy, frys, starpower, and modia that carry the item, but they all list at $2k + a delivery charge, plus could be old stock with an old build date and bad firmware.

Any other ideas? Anyone purchased one in the Dallas area recently and can PM me a source for great pricing?

Thanks
MC

If anyone has a frys with the hl67a750 in stock and wants to make some money by shipping one to me let me know cus frys has these but for instore purchase only so they won't ship it. They will deliver it locally though they said so you could just have them deliver it to the closest fedex or ups store/facility.

I'll pay for the tv and shipping in advance and then a finders fee for your trouble upon receiving it.

Thanks
