I have a pair of Magneplanar MG 1.6/QR speakers that have given me many years of excellent service. I don't seem to suffer from the lifted ribbon elements that some have. But I have to wonder if after almost 8-9 years if they should be rebuilt/replaced just on general principal?

The sound quality is really excellent when driven by a high current Denons and Pioneer amps that I've owned, but I'm open to replacement ideas. These are my front speakers, which I use mainly for music (usually in Direct mode).

Any opinions or experiences with these being rebuilt/replaced?

Thanks,
Z

You have terrific speakers that do not need to be rebuilt or modified in any way. Unless you kept them exposed to direct sunlight, or lived in humid sea climate, the panels should be fine. Take a closer look at the bass/midrange panel using a flashlight. Are wires still glued to the mylar or have they started to delaminate near the edges of the frame? If all looks good, just sit back and relax. They will serve you just fine for many years. Also, keep in mind, that it is very hard to find better speakers than 1.6 for twice their new price.
