Since this forum has been an immense help in gaining knowledge, i thought i would post how i resolved an issue with my RD65. I am copy/pasting what i posted on another forum.

Thread 1
=======
I have a Optoma 65" DLP TV (RD65), i bought back in 12/2004. It stopped working about two days back. While i was watching a movie, display got turned off during the course.

I had paid $2900 for this piece back then. I called the tech support. They suggested it could be any of three components that may have gone wrong.

Main Engine ($960)
Ballast ($200)
Lamp Power Supply($190)
Repairs if done by tech ($399)

If it is only last two components, then i could just fix it. If its all three then its like shelling out over thousand dollars. I might as well buy a new DLP set of similar size for around $1300. Just pissed off that $2900 TV lasted only four years.

Can't decide which route to take. Opinions requested on

1. Should i fix this set and hope it works for another four years?
2. Should i just trash this and get a new set (with an extended warranty)?

Thread 2, Fix
==========
Fixed.
Just thought i'd post this.
Spoke to tech support and ordered ballast.
I replaced ballast(Lamp power supply) for this tv which fixed the issue.
