View Full Version : Considering splitting the cabinet of a Hitachi 57S700 to move it. Bad idea?

As the title says I have to move this 278lb RPTV and it would be better managed if I could take 100lbs off the top.

It's then going to a friend who is excited to get it and he'll be taking it home via his pickup.

I have read the instructions and it seems very straight forward. My main concern is the 1hr travel with the lower cabinet somewhat exposed. I intend to cover it in a couple of soft blankets then plastic.

I just thought I'd throw it up here to see if anyone has had success doing something similar.

Thx,

Drew

Drew,

Just sold my Mitsubishi 65712 a few nights ago. We separated the 249 lb. unit with no problem. Covered both pieces with blankets and drove for 20 minutes. Had it back together after wiping off the guns with a micro fiber cloth. Easy as pie.

Thanks Scott,

We had a similar experience. There were only the two of us trying to get this 298lb tv into his pickup.

There were directions on the back of the set and it wen't smoothly. I also used a very thick microfiber polishing cloth and a cleaner safe for plastics.

Once in the truck we put the halves back together for transport.

Piece of cake.

I moved my hitachi 57 like 4 times and every time took top off of base, just pay attention keep screws and re clip in the harness and you are golden. Had 5 years and four moves and everything still perfect, blue ray looks awesome.
