Is there a linux compatible front end or media broswer that will allow me to browse through my movie collection exactly as in the image below? I'd like it to take up the full screen or very nearly the full screen. Ideally, I would also like to have the ability to sort by title, date released, running time, genre, rating, etc.
Thanks
Mike

XBMC with the MediaStream (http://www.teamrazorfish.co.uk/gallery.html) or Aeon (http://www.aeonproject.com/gallery.html) skin is the closest. Note that the new version of Aeon (Stark) is still in development. Also, XBMC doesn't yet have video hardware accel (VDPAU), but it is in development, as well.

I'm confused... I believe dmikester1's image IS XBMC with Aeon. There is a linux version. The install is a little trickier, see this xbmc.org forum thread for instructions (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?p=185738).

I actually did get that image from the "showing off xbmc" thread. But the caption on that image said "wall view", so I thought that was just one of the background images in XBMC and not actually a way to browse through movies. If you can really do that in XBMC, then I definitely want to try out XBMC.
Thanks
Mike

Yes, that's one of the default views. Although I find myself rarely using it - it looks pretty, but it's less intuitive than scrolling left-right or top-down alphabetically.

The Aeon skin takes XBMC to the next level, and it will only get better in "Stark" (the newest skin from Aeon's author). You can see some pre-release screens of Stark here (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45038).

XBMC is easily my favorite interface for media browsing and playback, although it has limitations based on a desire for compliance with Xbox hardware. This has historically meant that everything from decoding to rendering was handled internally by the xbmc software. In other words, no external codecs, filters, etc. Recent developments (see this AVSforum thread (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1120658)) thrust XBMC to the cutting edge of linux media center software.
