I saw my first glimpse of IR last night on my Sammy 50" 550. After watching the NBA all star/dunk contest stuff last night on TNT. That dang TNT logo in the top right hand corner was visible when on a blank screen. During normal viewing it wasnt normal at all though. I only have about 70ish hours on the set so far. Im sick of all these dang logos from these channels like this...
My question is. Does it make a difference whether or not i turn on the scrolling white/grey screen before i turn off the t.v. Or is it ok to go ahead and turn it off for the night and let my usual t.v. viewing take care of the IR the next day? I sure would like to get all of my viewing pleasure out of this tv and dont want to waste any of its lifespan on the scrolling screen. Also is there any negative affect on the tv from the scrolling screen other then decreased lifespan?

Viewing fullscreen content will get rid of most IR. If you still notice the image retention after watching a few hours of full screen content then use the white-screen or scrolling white bar functions.

cool, so does anyone have any thoughts on if it matters about getting it cleared away as soon as possible, or will waiting til the next day to "wash" it have any long term effects?

IR is really nothing to fret about...seriously. Keep in mind that IR is temporary....you would have to have a static image frozen onscreen for quite some time to even begin to get actual burn-in on a non-defective plasma. After you have about a years viewing time on the set...you will rarely see IR with any source.
